Bosh at Center?

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Thu May 28, 2009 1:20 pm

Hawks might be able to get Bosh, and could make a decent offer for him.

but the big concern is if Bosh could play center effectively for 82 games. Bosh might be able to, maybe not, but the more important question is, if Bosh can get the Hawks to the finals?

1. Would Bosh match up better against Dwight, offensively and defensively, than Horford?

2. Would Bosh's help defense, help more on Lebron than Horford, and would Bosh's offensive give Z more problems than Al?

3. Would Bosh give Perkins more problems than Horford?

I would be worried about Bosh at C. If we go off of their nba.com profiles, Al has 15 pounds on Bosh. Bosh seems to be skinny and thin. He could be a nice PF, but I don't think he has the weight behind him to be a 5.

Then again Camby is only 5 lbs heavier than Bosh.

Bosh's defense was terrible this year. Mainly he lets guys get deep position and score easy buckets. Sometimes he didnt even try at all and that was because he knew if he got in foul trouble the team would be toast.

Bosh could play much better defense if he had more defensive help and didnt have a pg who allows even stationary chairs to drive past him (Calderon). Josh would be good for him as far as weakside help on the big centers like Howard and Yao.

Bosh should not play Center unless the team is gonna run and not care about defense like NY or GS. With Woody and the hawks it probably wouldnt work.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Because it rhymes with 'Olajuwon'.

A few points to ponder:
Would Bosh even consent to play C full time?

No one skilled is going to match up physically with Dwight Howard, except Shaq and he's an expensive, short-term solution at best. This is to be expected with an overall #1 pick, they should be exceptional in some way that is hard to match up with for other teams.

If you get tunnel vision with respect to trying to best one team you may find yourselves vulnerable to others. We need to get better in general, not try to follow a rigid formula of must have a C who can match up with the best C in basketball. Sometimes, you need to acknowledge an opponent's advantage at a spot and work to minimize the importance of said advantage while exploiting your own advantages.

We already have the closest thing to a Dwight Howard stopper in Zaza. I say this not because of Zaza's size or skill, but rather he has historically got under Howard's skin to the point of disrupting his game. Doesn't happen every time we play but enough to be as effective as any other team against him. If we had more bigs to throw at him as well for fouls and to keep pressure on him we'd do even better.

I don't think it's likely that Chris Bosh plans on playing the 5 full-time. When Andrea Bargnani is playing the 5 instead of Chris Bosh it basically tells me that Chris seems himself as a 4. I honestly can't blame him due to the lack of bulk on his frame. I am open to having him hold down the 4 if the right trade was on the table.

Why are we debating playing a jump shooting power forward at the center position? He doesn't have the strength or girth to play that position effectively. Someone mentioned Marcus Camby, well his injury history coupled with Bosh's should let you know why woefully undersized pogo sticks shouldn't play the C position regurlarly. Bosh is not the answer to our issue at C.

Is getting Chris Bosh a realistic thought?
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.
