Hawks roster???
Bibby/Law
JJ/Flip
Marv/Evans
Smith/Horford/Solo
Horford/ZaZa/Solo
West
Hunter
Gardner
Thats about all I care to mention. The Hawks have gone as far as they can go with the lineup. So what do you all think the Hawks should do? Who do you all feel should be retained and who do you think should be traded and/or cut?

Solo and Gardner are gone. Claxton will be traded or bought out soon. I wouldn't mind seeing Hunter re-signed for the minimum.
As for the major pieces (Bibby, Marvin, Flip, Zaza) - who knows what Sund has in mind. My guess is that he'll keep as many of the pieces as he can.

Not particularly, but adding a legit 7'0 who can rebound and hold his own in the post on D would do wonders for 25 other teams in the NBA, too...

Re: Hawks roster???
Gardner is gone. I think he shot four air balls this season and he's supposed to be a great shooter. No confidence whatsoever from the guy.
I agree with keeping Hunter, which seems to be the consensus opinion on this board anyway.
I would like to keep Zaza, but I hope the FO takes that situation slowly because there will be guys available that would be a clear upgrade from him this summer. If we can get a Chris Anderson or something like that then it's time for him to go.
I really think we should offer Mario a multi-year deal similar to Randolph's. I see a lot of potential in Mario, he can be a solid rotation player if he works on his offensive game a bit. If he develops a competent mid-range jumper then I think he can be dangerous in short spurts on the offensive end.

I want the Hawks to get a legit Center...... who do you think are some Centers the Hawks could get this off season, via free agent, trade, or the draft?

None.
Unfortunately, there aren't any legit centers available that aren't injury-prone or drastically overpriced. I would like the Hawks to try to sign some depth off the bench if possible. I like the idea of adding someone like a Chris Wilcox.

sekou's been pushing for charlie villenueva. what do you think about that? it doesn't solve our problems at the 5, but i think that could throw a lot of tough wrinkles in our offense.

I really don't want Charlie Villanueva unless we made some moves. I want a more of a banger. you don't think we could get one of the following....Etan Thomas, Drew Gooden,Channing Frye,Theo Ratliff, Marcin Gortat, David Lee, Melvin Ely, Antonio McDyess, Kwame Brown, Steven Hunter. You see I am not talking about a All star or anything, I just want someone that can do something a center is suppose do. Rebound, protect the paint, slow down the other teams PF/C Hell I would even take
Mikki Moore, Anderson Varejao, or Johan Petro..... well maybe not Petro but he would be better than Randolph Morris. All these guys are free agents this year, so why couldn't we get one of them? Maybe even two of them!!! That is what I want for the Hawks. If we did get Villanueava I would want to still trade Al Hoford and get one of the above mentioned. But if we trade Al I want a top five pick in this draft...... Memphis maybe. and try to get Thabeet. Maybe Memphis would do Al and Law for the #2 or AL and 19th for the #2. what do you guys think

on that list...i like rasheed, theo, and drew gooden. rasheed would be expensive, but if we were to land him he'd be a great fit on the O side. that would free up/force josh to work in the paint, i think.
i really like drew gooden's game too, and i think he'll be looking to get some more minutes than he had in SA.

These are my big man opinions barring a trade for a name.
I think Martin Gortat would be the guy to make a run at. If he can be signed to an offer sheet then Orlando essentially must go into luxury tax to keep him or let him go. The one problem is that he will likely command a full MLE offer from someone which means to be a player we'd risk losing Flip Murray (unless he would resign for the BAE).
A lesser option would be taking a flier on Johan Petro who would be cheap and tall. He's thin but would add shot blocking off the bench and was showing some signs of productivity in OKC before getting buried in Denver's front line. I'd love to ink him for the league minimum, but it would likely take a bit more (either BAE or a portion of the MLE). He wouldn't interfere with resigning Flip though.
The 3rd option I believe is to bring over David Andersen at a portion of the MLE. He isn't a true C, he might even be a bit soft, but he does have height and offensive skill. I liken him to a less expensive Brad Miller. The caveat on Andersen is that a mutual agreed price may be hard to arrive at. He's used the Hawks before to sign big Euro deals. This may finally be the year to pay or trade his rights to get a extra 2nd rounder (for a team that thinks they may sign him) or late first round pick (if a team doesn't want the guaranteed contract for a player they don't think can help).
The final option would be to offer Aaron Gray the league minimum. He's a bit of a stiff, but he's shown more NBA game than Solomon Jones or Randolph Morris. He isn't going to be a run the court guy, but he could actually log minutes and bang when we need a tall big body out there which is better than what we've had.
That's my list in order of preference. A lot of people are on the Gortat bandwagon. I'm probably the only Hawks fan who thinks Petro or Gray can contribute at this point. Andersen is a sticky subject considering that he's been rumored for so long. I just either want him in an uniform or traded for whatever we can get so I don't have to hear how we might be bringing him over anymore. If we got a 2nd rounder out of him then I'd be able to push for both my round 2 targets (Alade Aminu, who I feel was underdeveloped and underused at Tech and can become an NBA rotation center and Jon Brockman, who is my 2nd round space-eating PF who'll rebound his heart out and get on the court right away at just over 400K. He's my league minimum priced answer to Reggie Evans).

Re: Hawks roster???
I'm still a fan of Camby. Yes he is old and frail, but the other centers out there will make too much. Gortat will get the full mle from someone. I would like Andersen but like was said, he isn't a true center. I like him as a 3rd big man, however not as our 3rd big man. We can't do well with 3 pf's and no true center.
Like was said we need a true 7 footer with a big body.

I'm not fully sold on Martin Gortat enough to offer him the full MLE.

The league minimum would be fine. I don't consider Johan a skilled shot blocker or rebounder, but maybe Tyrone Hill can work with him, and improve Johan to have better control of his body. At times Johan is so aggressive and hurts his team greatly by fouling.

I've been very critical of David over the years due to the amount of money he wants. However, I would take him over Martin Gortat, and David would hopefully be serviceable to us. I'm also open to Sund trading his rights for damn near nothing (2nd round pick).
Good option at the league minimum. Aaron can be overly aggressive at times (due to lack of speed), but I think he can become a decent rebounding big, and at some point possibly peak out at what ZaZa offers us. I would like to see him work on his foot work this off-season. So, I also feel he can contribute.

Anderson Varejao - If he rejects his player option I think Sund should consider pursing him or trading for him. He has the type of energy we need, he's a team player, and I can't see many negatives about his game. The one concern that I have is that he seems to think he's worth 8-10 million per season.
Ryan Hollins - High energy player, overly aggressive at times, but he impressed me with Dallas.
Aaron Gray - Needs to work on his speed with makes him overly aggressive at times and causes him to foul. If he can manage to get faster and more balance, I believe he can peak out at what ZaZa has brought to our team.
Brian Skinner - Has a player option that he possibly won't accept. While he's undersized he can see be a cheaper option for us and provide us with more depth off the bench.
Chris Mihm - Injury prone, his minutes will need to be limited, but when healthy can he really add that spark off the bench.
Theo Ratliff - Solid one year option at the minimum. He can fit the system perfectly if he doesn't expect to play big minutes, is willing to teach our younger big men and he should provide us with some strong veteran leadership. I don't mind him floating during the regular season as long he goes 100% during the playoffs.

Given the contract that he would opt out of (6.2M) it would take more than the MLE to land him and I'm not sure what we'd have to acquire him in a sign and trade. I do like his energy though as he did to us what Zaza did to Miami in terms of rebounding dominance. Not sure about what role he would be happy with either.
HMFFL wrote:Ryan Hollins - High energy player, overly aggressive at times, but he impressed me with Dallas.
He did have some impressive stints on the court this year. I kind of overlooked him because I see Dallas resigning him, but if we could land him he'd give the length we've been lacking and also bring a lot of energy to the position.

I'm not sure he could consistently reach Zaza's level, but that's more to my skepticism on his ability to get faster. I still think he upgrades our bench and he seems to be odd man out in Chicago.

When last I saw him he didn't seem to have much left in the tank. I'm afraid he's past his expiration date.
HMFFL wrote:Chris Mihm - Injury prone, his minutes will need to be limited, but when healthy can he really add that spark off the bench.
Was unimpressed when I last saw him with the Lakers (right before he got shipped to Memphis. His injury tendency has been so great that it is hard to imagine him earning his contract.

I do like Theo and what he can bring. He'd be a good part of a 2 piece big man addition along with a younger big to absorb minutes during the long season be a longer investment. Not sure what's his current mental state as he wrapped the season a bit unhappy.

After look over Anderson Varejao's numbers against Orlando and most of all against Dwight Howard I came to the conclusion that Anderson can't even contain Dwight. Next time I need to do more research on a player against the teams within our division before saying we should pursue him.
Wiretap: Varejao Will Opt Out
