Not the smartest thread in the world, if you ask me. It's a if there was onloy three choices facing the Hawks getting in this offseason.

I think you should have presented that thread a bit like that:

I would love the Hawks to draft Maynor or Lawson, or any other pg at 19. However, I was wondering if it would be better to swap the 19 and Marv to Memphis to land Rubio, assuming Memphis would be willing to do that. I would also like the Hawks to sign Charlie V, because it looks like there's no way he's staying in Milwaukee.

I would prefer something where we would get Rubio and then take Mullens if he is there with our 19.

I'm not sure about Evans. He would give us insurance is JJ leaves but he is only like 6'5" so I don't think he can play the 3 effectively.

well I didn't have the hawks swapping the 19 and Marvin to memphis. not trying to be an ass but try reading it again. I had the hawks trading Hoford and maybe Law to Memphis for their 2 pic this year and us keeping our 19 and or us trading Marvin to Minn for their 6 pic. The Hawks keep the 19 pic in both cases.

Rak... it is hard to please everybody on any board... If possible, I would prefer the first team that you had mentioned.

I don't think we have enough money to sign bibby, marvin, flip, zaza and frye. I also don't think Memphis wants to trade Horford and Law for their 2nd pick. If we could somehow pull that off, we would be in good shape for next season. I like where your head is at.

Why couldn't I take Roster 2 except with Gortat and Bibby?
Frye isn't a C so I see Roster 1 as out; Thabeet is a HUGE boom or bust pick whose elite skill (shot blocking) is redundant on our team with Smith. We trade away a lot of current production without replacing that production.
Roster 3 has problems as well. Not a huge fan of Charlie V (think Glenn Robinson) and T Evans isn't an SF. Both Horford and Smith @ PF would be a waste as well - 1 would need to be moved.
Roster 2 gives us the most talent on the roster IMO and the best team, but we're still left with our current holes. So why would acquiring Rubio preclude resigning Bibby or signing Gortat? That would leave us with:
Bibby / Rubio
JJ / Flip
Marvin / Mo
Smith / Zaza
Gortat / Mullens
All we've done with our top 8 would be to replace Horford with Gortat, but we've added a potential franchise PG (well, or the poster boy for European busts, but, hey I'm an optimist) and another high ceiling C (though I'd gone a different route @ 19; maybe Douglas, I just think he'd be an ideal sidekick to Rubio - hometown kid too). We'd still have the expirings of Speedy, Law, and Morris and #49 as assets to trade if we wanted to swing a deal @ the deadline too.

There is no way to get both Gortat and Murray. The Hawks don't have any bird rights on Flip so they would have to use part of the MLE to sign him.
