How about this for a next move...

This trade idea may just be pure fantasy, but something for Sund to consider if he really wants to leave an imprint on this roster...

Hawks get:
Rajon Rondo
John Salmons

Celtics get:
Kirk Hinrich
Joe Johnson

Bulls get:
Ray Allen
Gabe Pruitt

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Rondo is really coming into his own and could become a top-5 PG next season. He and Crawford would make a dynamite backcourt. Salmons would be a fine replacement for Williams at the 3 spot. Then, the Hawks could use their cap flexibility to add frontcourt depth and re-sign Flip.
HAWKS LINE-UP:
PG-Rondo/#19 pick (Teague or Lawson)
SG-Crawford/Murray
SF-Salmons/Evans
PF-Smoove/Free Agent (Chris Wilcox or Channing Frye)
C-Horford/Free Agent (Chris Andersen or re-sign Pachulia)

that's too many changes for one year. you are talking about a brand new 1,2,and 3 with a new frontcourt. i'm pretty sure that that team would end up in the lottery. crawford isn't a top 15 SG much less someone worth getting rid of joe. also i'm not that big a fan of rondo as people who were watching the playoffs. i'd rather keep the core and chemistry together. crawford is about addition without subtraction and that's how you get ahead in the association. that trade would be taking away too much.

I agree with this.

Good points. The counterargument is the risk associated with Johnson leaving in 2010. If he bolts and we get no compensation, that would set our team back years.

Bold, but I think the next move might be something along the lines of a Marvin Williams S&T with Joe moving to point forward rather than trading Joe.

I like this idea. I really really really don't want Crawford running our team as a point guard next year.

i think that the question of joe is best left for next year. we can't screw up and trade our best player just because we are afraid we might lose him. i doubt he leaves if we have a good season next year. winning solves all problems. just continue to build the team.

I just can't understand why people keep saying trade Joe. I just doesn't make any sense to me. We now have someone that can make teams pay for doubleing Joe, so now lets just see how Joe plays now. I still want to have one more star on this team though. BOSH

Bibby/ Flip/Maynor(19)
JC/ Flip
JJ/Evans
Josh smith/Solo
BOSH/ ZaZa

OR

Bibby/ Flip
JC/ Flip
JJ/Evens
BOSH/ Frye
Horford/ZaZa

Big three JJ, Bosh, and Bibby/JC

Bibby and JC or one half together they are and whole star.

I fully expect Portland to draft Omri Casspi with the 22nd pick and package him to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich.

I'm not as high on Rajon Rondo as some Atlanta Hawks and I'm afraid he's going to expect a near max contract.

I really like Rondo, but I share the signability fear. Is he a max player? Will someone bid you into a bad deal?

Hmmm, Rondo for JJ? Interesting and something that might be worth looking into.
He is just coming into his own in the league, and doesn't have a turnoff button, like JJ.

I like JJ, but he doesn't lead like he should. I see Rondo giving other teams' fits night in and night out.

He is still improving, and I bet Garnett would have a hernia if this went down. Rondo makes their team go. They will find out soon enough should they deal him off.

I proposed this idea on Hawksquawk earlier this month and it seems even more plausible after this recent trade:

Conley/#2 for Horford/#19/Cash
