Hawks Hinting They Won't Re-Sign Bibby?

If the Hawks do in fact acquire Jamal Crawford, it could spell the end for Mike Bibby in Atlanta.
A source close to Bibby told ESPN on Thursday night that the team's management has sent signals that they won't re-sign the point guard this summer.
Trading for Crawford won't keep the Hawks from drafting a point guard in Thursday night's NBA Draft. Atlanta is reportedly looking at Brandon Jennings, Eric Maynor and Jeff Teague.
LinkIf we can get him back, I just hope we can manage a sign-and-trade and get something in return, because even if letting Bibby walk would allow us to use the MLE on someone, doing a sing-and-trade can help to get a player with more than the MLE in salary.

Didn't ESPN just say a few weeks ago that we were trying to shred salaries? Then we traded for Jamal Crawford soon after...

If we are planning on using Crawford and a rookie at pg, does anyone want my season tickets?

I think we'll use Crawford to get either Bibby or Murray to sign with us for less than they thought they'd get.

Well, if the plan is to get Bibby to sign for less then I'm happy with the trade. If we end up with Crawford, a rookie, and Flip at point I'm not happy. It will be a huge step backwards.

It seems like werer gonna draft a PG this year. Does that make it a for sure thing that the Hawks wont resign him? I sure hope not. I hope we plan on using Crawford as a 6th man, and draft a PG to take some minutes from Bibby. Well see how it plays out tonight, that should tell us all where we will be going with this franchise. Rick Sund and his team know basketball more than we do, so we need to trust them even if thats hard for you!

Sneaker - If we pick a point guard with the 19th pick, I don't expect any of them to be ready to run our team, and actually have success. If we keep Jamal he needs to be our point guard until it's evident that a rookie can perform at a high level. It won't be that big of a difference with Jamal because Mike Bibby is similar, so I expect Joe to bring the ball up plenty of times.

We have #19 H. Are you thinking that the back court will remain as is plus a PG at #19?
I think we'll either keep Bibby or bring in another vet PG.

This feels like an agent floated story to get up free agent interest in his client. I believe the Hawks want to resign Bibby but probably at a salary/years combination that Bibby is not going to overjoyed with. Need bidders to drive it up or offer S&T possibilities.

My fault. Getting all the information mixed up with all the news.
I think it depends on which players are still available. I don't like our chance at many of the point guards because I expect Lawson, Jennings and possibly Eric Maynor to be gone before we pick. That may only leave us with Jeff Teague or Nick Calathes who would be an investment. Sund has allowed Woodson to have his say and from what I read both must agree. If Tyler Hansbrough, Austin Daye, Sam Young and DeJuan Blair are still on the board I think we take one of them. The sure thing at point is Ty Lawson who probably won't get past Indiana and if he does Philly may take him.

We're thinking along the same lines on the draft. I also see a Blair/Hansbrough pick. I also think something will happen at PG. I don't see us starting the season with Crawford as the PG. He can play there, but I think we'll either get someone like Sessions or Felton or re-sign Bibby.

What is a pretty sure thing is that if we pick a PG, he will not see the court many times this coming season since Woodson will be in search of a contract extension, and as it will be based on record and playoffs, ad not on how he can add rookies into the mix and help them to improve, he won't use a PG rookie, only veterans.
He would use one if he gets a 10-years contract.
