Marvin for Vince

S&T Marvin, contracts (Evans, Speedy) and draft pick, for Vince Carter???????
this would be one of those win it now moves.
Vince probably only has 2-3 more very productive years left in him, then will probably turn into what TMac is now. While Marvin has a good 7-8 years of being a 15ppg scorer.

I don't like it, not because it doesn't improve us. My rationale is that I don't think it puts us over the top and it the move itself would lock down the next 3 years without much room to put us over the top. I don't think the rest of the roster is close enough to the top that Vince does it.
Perhaps I would feel better about it if I what other moves you planned to pair with it, but I don't see where it gives enough room to finish out the roster in a competitive way.

I don't think I'd do it but this seems a little too unrealistic for me. What are the chances that NJ would want Marvin on a new contract and that Marvin wants to play in NJ? Sign and trades like that just don't happen that often.

I think you are out of mind to do this trade.
VC is not better than Marvin William. He is just a scorer. JJ, Mike Bibby are the scorers you need.
You guys need some big bodies and some good coaching.

adjust: SnT Marvin, and Speedy for Vince Carter.
i don't know if NJ would accept this, but it does seem alot better than Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic for Vince.

Come on now. I understand why we would not want to do this swap because of VC's age and salary. But there is NO WAY Marvin is as good as him. If we had Vince instead of Marvin last season we would be a much better team.

I believe the theory is that Ben Wallace will retire and Sasha is not fully guaranteed which should lead to substantial savings. Not sure exactly how the retirement works with the guaranteed contract and the cap, but I'm willing to accept that it would constitute a cash savings considering the extension they gave Carter.

Wolves fan here. The possibility of making a sign and trade for Williams has been thrown around a bit on our board. I have to imagine we have the assets if we really wanted to get it done.
We have "available"
Charlotte's 2010 1st(top 12 protected)
Utah's 2010 1st(top 18 protected this year, I believe less protected in 2010)
Cardinal(expiring)
Madsen(expiring)
Brewer
Gomes
Craig Smith
Telfair
Rights to Nikola Pekovic
Kevin Love(unlikely to be available but possibly)
I left out Flynn and Rubio since Kahn has stated they're not really available for trade, and Jefferson isn't going anywhere unless a top level star is coming back. The 3 bigs from the WAS trade can't be traded unless it's a 1:1 deal, I believe.
What are some trades that you guys could see as fair for Williams? I guess I'd start with a large expiring like Cardinal, one of the 1st rounders OR Pekovic, and maybe Gomes/Smith for Williams in a S&T.

I can't see why the Hawks would be interested in any of that. THe Hawks window is to win now- all of those assets would be for the future. If some other team with caproom started strongly looking at Marvin and the Hawks were faced with the possibility of losing him for nothing then things could change- but other than that I can't imagine why they would be seeking out any of that.

We don't especially need large expiring contracts, at least not as big part of the amount. Maybe a little expiring and a guy with a lower salary than what can get Marvin to get a little room for next year salaries increase.
And we don't need PF if it's for Marvin, since we already have Smith and even Horford who can play at this position (Marvin can too depending on the opponent).
Not sure if you are the best partner.
And it depends on Bibby situation. If re-signed, it could mean more Joe at SF (with Evans in backup), so the goal would be a C for 30min, with Horford splitting his time between C and PF.
If he's not re-signed, we need a SF. Brewer could fit, even if I am not sure about how he played since in NBA, and his injury update.

The Utah pick is supposedly top 15 protected in 2010. The Washington guys have a 2 month restriction from being included in with other players in a deal. Although there are was around it depending on the cap situations of the two teams. Essentially you do multiple deals.
I don't see a deal with those pieces that appeals to me, but someone else might.

Do you really think the Hawks window is to win now? Sure, you have a nice team, but with Orlando, Cleveland, Boston, and now Washington, I really can't see you being a top four seed next year. Save Johnson, your team is still very, very young. If anything, you would be picking up assets that you could turn around and trade for an even more prototypical win now player.
EDIT: ahh... I thought I was on the general trade board for a sec there. Didn't mean to talk jive in your house, that's not my style. Sorry about that.
1. You could have deleted your post.
2. How are anything that we are getting in return that great that we could turn around and trade off for nice value? Late firsts don't have a ton of value and the players we would be getting in return's value isn't high at all. We would be trading marvin for essential backups and 3rd stringers, while in the process giving Minny a sick young core.

If the Hawks are going to trade Marvin, I think they do so in hopes of a talent upgrade at one of the following positions:
PG
CR
I personally like Gomes, Smith, Pekovic, and the Charlotte pick, but none of them really make sense for the Hawks unless Marvin wants way more than he's worth.

I was going to ask this earlier of any T-Wolves fans, what's up with Craig Smith's rebounding? I mean his points per minute have increased but the rebounding numbers have dwindled. Has his role on court changed that much?
