Josh Smith is Overpaid

Post#1 » by ALL HAIL » Mon Jun 29, 2009 6:21 am

Smith to Memphis for Marc Gasol ... the promising center we need to move Horford to PF.

Memphis has two promising pure centers and need Smith who they tried to sign last summer.

Sign Bibby (as a tutor for Teague) or Jarret Jack, Pachulia, and Marvin Williams:

PG - Bibby - Teague
SG - Crawford - Evans
C - Gasol - Pachulia
PF - Horford - Williams
SF - Johnson -

I live in Atlanta and I am a Hawks fan. I think Gasol would help this team immensely more than Smith because overall team rebounding would improve and the Hawks can FINALLY turn Horford lose ... I think he is WAY MORE valuable than Smith ... and it saves a lot of money.

I might do that trade if we added Mo and they added Jaric, Warrick (SnT), and next year's unprotected first... Not sure what that looks like on any trade checker just thinkin about their roster and what would be reasonable... Actually I would probably be wary of this trade too just because Jaric is overpaid. But that's why I added in the first next year because we are doing them a favor by taking Jaric off their books

PG: Craw, Teague, Jaric
SG: Joe, Flip, Jaric
SF: Marv, Jaric
PF: Al, Warrick
C: Gasol, Zaza, Morris

That doesn't look too bad actually

What about a semi salary dumping with Dallas and a S&T with Bass? I know you guys prefer a center but a powerhouse like Bass would be also a nice addition. And anyway you have soon to choose between Marvin or Josh.

Stack (Buyout 2 Mio) + Bass + Future first.

Or maybe Damp+Bass. Damps last year isnt guaranteed, he is almost like an expiring (i think 2-3mio in 2010). I know he sucks on offense but still plays pretty nice defense and can set really nice and smart screens in the offense.

Why do we have to chose between Smith and Marvin?

Money, positions....

I think Marv would be much better as a fulltime SF.

Marvin is a full-time SF. He played 34% of the team's minutes there and only played 17 at PF, mainly due to us not having a capable backup big man. Smith is a fulltime PF. He played 57% of the minutes there and only 3 at C.

These people have no clue what they're talking about if they think Marvin isn't a full time SF. He's started there for 3 years. Smith has started at PF for 3 years.

The original trade is a joke.

Yet another thread that shows how hard it is to deal Josh. I understand the sentiments of moving Al to PF by dealing him, but once again we see how hard it would be to deal Josh for a C and get equal value in return.

And he is not overpaid. His contract is actually quite reasonable considering what young players of his caliber tend to make.

I fail to see how Gasol would have much of an impact on rebounding since he had 7.4 rebounds per game last year.

I also don't understand what you mean by turning Horford loose, as if Smith was holding him back somehow. Smith isn't the one preventing Horford from taking open shots. Smith isn't the one stopping Horford from taking it to the basket.

Josh Smith had about the same rebound rate as Mike Miller last season.

More like yet another thread that is pointless and completely based on our dreams. His contract is more than reasonable hes not overpaid.
Stop creating these stupid threads
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

1. Gasol is actually older than smith.

2. Gasol actually turned the ball as many times as smith per 48 minutes. which is one of everyones major complaints against smith

3. Zaza is only slightly older than gasol. And his last season getting as many minutes as gasol did(30 mpg)

zaza put up 12 and 8
gasol put up 12 and 7.4

so he isnt even a clear upgrade over the backup center

4. it would hurt the hawks defensively. something they cant afford considering they have built a team full of horrible defensive guards

I think Zaza is older than his listed age.

I've been a lurker here for many years. I made this thread after Marc Gasol's rookie year and after concurrently realizing that Horford was really good and Smith was a glorified role player.

I'm sorry, I just think it's funny when people are really, really, really wrong.

Wow you had all these people laughing at you.

Now if you suggested the same trade again people would still laugh at you but for the opposite reason.

Well played sir.
