Hawks, Pachulia agree to terms !

Post#1 » by D21 » Wed Jul 8, 2009 5:39 pm

Free agent center Zaza Pachulia has agreed to terms with the Hawks on a long-term deal, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

Pachulia, 25, spent the last four years with the Hawks on a $16 million deal. His new deal is believed to be for the same amount of years but with a significant raise, according to one of the sources familiar with the situation.

Today is the first day free agents can sign contracts and trades can be completed.

Veteran point guard Mike Bibby agreed to terms on a new three-year, $18 million deal with the Hawks Tuesday.

I don't know what the "significant" will be, but I hope it's not too much, like more than the MLE, even if there's a possibility that it was the price to keep him.
I'd find 6M$ too high for Zaza, but what can we get for that price at this moment since the veteran big don't want to come here and prefer the real contenders ?

The Hawks were really screwed if Zaza left so I could see them thinking that it was worth it to overpay. Not thrilled about 4 years if all of them are guaranteed. Have to see what the actual dollar figure on the contract was in order to properly assess this one.

Its prob around $6 mil per. It won't be nothing dramatic.

With the Salary Cap being possibly lower next year, there's a chance that they manage to not increase the salaries as much as possible.
Bibby and/or Zaza contract could be decreasing contracts, which would be good for the future, but not the best thing for this year if it push almost to the tax once Marvin is signed. We could loose the amount that could bring another big.

Apparently, Andersen has said that he'll sign for less than $3M a year. Gotta have another contributing big.

See if Dice'll fit under the lux tax too.

Significant worries me...a lot.

I don't want us to be stuck in a Gadz situation in a few years where we are overpaying for an average/below average big man. I think 6 million is a bit high for him since he is such a huge defensive and offensive foul liability (aka his great moving screens/picks).

The bigman market was squeezing tight, as usual. happy to sign one. zaza's good for 20 average minutes a game. Gotta bring in another contributing big for there to be progress. Andersen, Dice, Gooden?

We would be ready to go.

Probably 4 yrs, 21 million.

Closer to 6 million will bother me.

Im sure Sund knows what he's doing. Its not like za is garbage, he's one of the more productive back-up big men in the nba.

It seems that he has already agree on a contract with SAS.

Honestly I think the best backup for this team could be Shelden Williams. Can provide Bulk at both PF and Center. Is a good rebounder. I'd overpay him on a 1 year contract so he doesn't affect the tax next season. He was a total waste of that draftpick but it doesn't mean he can't be a useful player at a low price.

Richard Hendrix is another guy I'd like to see brought in. I think he was sort of screwed by the Warriors.

there's no way the deal could be as bad as gadz was. they gave that scrub 6 yrs. 36 million. zaza shouldn't regress that bad in 4 yrs. if anything he should be able to keep up his relative production.

sidebar: i think that zaza has found his home in atlanta. i remember seeing how he and other georgians came out in support for their home country when the russians attacked. zaza could be more of a presence in the atlanta community than we as regular hawks fans realize.

Congrats to Zaza and the Hawks.....IMO significant means anything over 5M/year. That is a good increase for Zaza.....very few get that kind of raise in this economy. I know its about the market, but after I saw what Bargnani got, I thought, uh-oh, let's see what Zaza and Marvin get now.

I thought what killbuckner said about Shelden, and he makes sense.......Shelden is a viable option after looking at who was available. IMO, he put some good games together at times, perhaps when the games weren't critical, but still some double-doubles. Would either side consider bringing it back together?

I would give him another look. He would probably come in as cheap as McDyess did for Detroit the last couple of years.

Shelden Williams could not get on the court for the Minnesota Timberwolves or Sacramento Kings last season. He is not just bad for his draft position, but a bad NBA player altogether.

I'd easily take Ike Diogu over Shelden Williams.

Ike Diogu is better on the boards and I feel has the brighter future. Shelden seems to have a lack of interest for the game. He would cost less, but I would prefer a fresh face, and for the past to be behind us.

Shelden Williams :nonono:

For hopefully the last time, Shelden Williams does not have good enough hands to play in the NBA. They're so bad that it even hurts his rebounding. It's bad enough that he will be forever known as an Atlanta lottery pick. Let's not go down that road again. Any number of undrafted rookies > Shelden Williams. Solomon Jones > Shelden Williams. The idea is to add someone to improve the front line. Not to have someone at the end of the bench as a constant reminder of why I despise Billy Knight.

i wonder what that means, "significantly" more money. Hes worth more than his previous contract but i hope they didnt overspend
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

I'm not sure I'd take Solo over Shelden.

I think Knight really dropped the ball by refusing to send Solo to the D League in his 1st two years. Solo had good athletic tools(6'10 with a 40 inch vert)but fouled everything that moved and looks completely lost on very simple things like covering a pick and roll. There is no excuse why some one that raw shouldn't have been getting minutes in the D league in his 1st two years if he wasn't going to play.
