I hope Marvin doesn't become this year's Smoove

In terms of signing. I'm sure most of you will have already seen this by the time you click the link:

"A report from HoopsWorld on Marvin Williams and the Atlanta Hawks almost having an agreement done on a new contract appears premature.

“Somebody is lying to them,” Williams said via text message Sunday afternoon. “That’s not true.”"

Last year's events seemed to least a bad taste in everyone's mouths... I'd want everything to get settled amicably.

I think the Hawks learn a lesson last year. Plus with the current market already being set by not only Charlie V but also by Marion. It is easy to put together a deal.

I think the question is whether marvin thinks that Charlie V set the market for him or whether Turkoglu did.

RFA's take longer. So far only a couple RFA's have signed offer sheets (Gortat, Millsap, Jack, and Bass (I think he was RFA)). Very few teams can make a play for Marvin because of cap space. However, he has a high QO so he doesn't have much pressure to accept a deal quickly. The question is how much he desires security of a long term deal versus the freedom of UFA next summer (if he plays for the QO). Right now the biggest help on getting a deal was the NBA memo about a likely drastic drop in the salary cap next summer. That implies that even teams that have been saving their space won't have nearly as much to throw around.

What was so bad about what happened last summer with Smoove? There were some hurt feelings as there often are in these situations, but by playing hardball and being patient we retained him on a very reasonable contract.
