Can we not sign all 3 of Siler,Joe Smith and Harrick?

Since Solo is gone to the Pacers it's obvious that the Hawks will have to compensate with some big and Joe Smith was supposedly talking all week with us. I expect his decision somewhere around the end of next week but what about a guy like Hakim Warrick?? His length and athleticism is instantly an attraction, he gives us what Solo gave us plus some and G. Siler i heard was throwing people around in mini-camp. Hawks brass hopefully are looking at these guys seriously. If not then: :sigh:

Harrick? Former coach and champion of illiteracy?

We could sign Siler, Joe Smith and Hakim Warrick, but there really isn't room for two more vets.

First, Siler, if he makes the team, would likely be the 14th or 15th man, not expected to do much this year primarily playing in the d-league and maybe seeing a spot activation or 2 depending on match ups and injuries. Bigs take so long to develop normally though that Siler might not make the team at all if they figure he's more than a year from contributing. They may decide to risk losing him and give him another look next summer utilizing the roster spot for someone who can contribute now.

Joe Smith (or Drew Gooden) would make a great signing as they would provide a veteran big who can rebound, score down low, and play some defense for about 15 minutes a night. It'll help keep our lineup fresh and have us in better shape on those nights when we have players get foul happy. I would say that a veteran big who can play the 4 and the 5 is the top priority.

Hakim Warrick can play the 3 and the 4, but in all likelihood would want a situation with better minutes. If we sign Joe Smith, how many minutes are left for him? 5th big isn't going to get steady minutes especially if he can't play the 5 spot.

When Marvin is resigned, we'll have roster spots 1-9 filled (I'm giving Teague one of those spots). The Hawks will be filling the 12-15 spots on the roster (Randolph Morris is de facto #11 because he's under contract), but those are development or spot roles (like Othello Hunter and Mario West). What I'm trying to say is that the Hawks have only 1 more big signing outside of coming to terms with Marvin. After that the PT just isn't there outside of major injuries to justify a veteran joining the squad as they are more likely to get PT elsewhere. I think Joe Smith is the #1 target. After that it might fall to Drew Gooden or Ike Diogu or maybe a Johan Petro. It would be awhile before Warrick gets a call.

2 scenarios for the upcoming season if Siler/Morris are our 5th big men:

1) Siler - 3 minutes / 3 fouls - he isn't going to get a single call for years.

2) Morris - 6 minutes / 3 fouls - slow progression, but I don't see him contributing. And as someone said on ajc.com......he looks lost out there.

I don't expect a big name to come here and be considered the 2nd post off the bench. With the logjam in Cleveland, I would have to be content with Joe Smith. My preference would be JJ Hickson, who looked good at times last year but he isn't cheaper than Joe Smith.

Its probably a short-term solution path we are headed down.

Is Hickson available? I thought he was under contract.

Hickson still has 4 years left on his original deal last year. I saw good things from him.
He won't see the court this year with Varajeo, Z, Moon and Shaq in front of him.

1.4 this year/then 1.5/2.3/3.3 QO

You would have to be convinced that he is going to be a plus off the bench for you.
NBA Comparison: Chris Wilcox

He would solidify the bench for us as the 4th big man. I take him over Joe Smith going forward.

^^^ I don't see how he'd be available. I admit that Cleveland is putting people ahead of him, but as one of their few young pieces of note they'd keep him around unless he's needed in a deadline trade.
