I'm not a twitter fan, but I read yesterday that he closed his account, after he had posted a picture of a big bag of pot.

I read a story that had a link to the supposed picture and I saw a normal size bag. Not sure if the link was correct. I hate to be cynical, but the timing and suddenness makes this feel like a PR damage control move rather than an actual attempt to get help for a problem. If it manages to preempt self destructive behavior then great, but we'll see.

I really couldn't care any less if an athlete smokes pot. I assume that at least 75% of NBA players do it.

The more that comes out about this makes it seem less about drugs per se and more about depression. Supposedly before it was taken down he made some statements on his twitter account that could be interpreted as suicidal. Perhaps I was too skeptical in my initial take.

I think it has more to with depression as well. I couple months ago he had a daughter and that should his motivation to get his life back on track.
This is really negative:
According to Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski, Michael Beasley has checked into rehab... with some encouragement from the Miami Heat.
It all stems from this photo of Beasley's new "Supercool" tattoo. The photo touched off a controversy because of what looked to be bags of pot on the floor. The controversy let Beasley to take down his Twitter account... but not before sending out these 3 tweets:
* "Y do I feel like the whole world is against me!!!!!!! Back on my FTW!!!!! I can't win for losin!!!!!!!!!!"
* "Feelin like it's not worth livin!!!!!!! I'm done"
* "not feelin this at all!!!!!"
That's not encouraging at all. Phrases like "the whole world is against me" and "Feelin like it's not worth livin" are beyond obvious red flags. The rehab might not be for marijuana use as much as it is for getting Beasley some mental help.
We had fun with his tats and what seemed like a stupid mistake of letting pot sneak into the photo... but this has taken a serious turn. I hope Beasley gets the help he needs.

Today's report is that the rehab was planned as part of the league's substance abuse program. That's less encouraging because rather than be for treatment of the depression his posts seem to be indicative of, it seems that he may view this rehab visit as one of the ways the whole world is against him (possibly as "punishment" for a failed test). It's hard to get much out of therapy if you enter with a closed mind.
Also, if you don't shade in the lens area of the sunglasses on a tattoo, then they look like regular glasses, which have never been confused with being supercool.
And he needs some furniture. That's a nice hard wood floor, large window, and what appear to be the edge of a large TV; but all of his stuff is spread out on a towel on the floor. Maybe he should watch some of those Cribs shows for ideas because that just isn't right.
