Indiana at the 5. Solo starting?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Oct 1, 2009 5:24 am

I doubt they start Solo over Hibbert and Foster, but I would love to see it happen.

Roy Hibbert may have ended last season as the Pacers starting center, but the second-year player has to continue to get better if he expects to start this season.

Just as he did during the team's media day last week, coach Jim O'Brien said starting positions are up in the air (unless your last name is Granger, Ford or Murphy).

If early indications mean anything, Solomon Jones is not going to just hand the starting job over to Hibbert.

You can't blame Solo for thinking that way because it's not like he's playing on a team that's a lock to make the playoffs.

"I think it's wide open," O'Brien said after practice Wednesday. "It's not just between those two guys, Jeff (Foster) is also a possibility, too. I don't have any preconceived ideas of how that's going to play out. They're all going to get plenty of opportunities to get looks in game situations during the exhibition season."

Jones, who people say has a lot of "upside," didn't play a lot of minutes during his three years with the Atlanta Hawks.

"He's by far our most athletic big guy from a standpoint of instinctive ness and blocking shots," O'Brien said.

If Solomon Jones is starting for the Pacers they are going to be even worse than I previously thought, and they were going to be pretty bad in the first place.

He was their starting 4 in their first preseason game playing alongside Foster who was at the 5. He put up decent stats, 11points 4rebounds 3blocks only 3 fouls. Keep in mind they held Troy Murphy out though and I doubt they start Solo at his spot over him.

I was actually in Indy this week and went to the Pacers game Friday night. Solo looked good, collecting several dunks and getting to the free throw line on a few occasions.

Watching the Indiana game against Denver on NBATV and Solo looks so much stronger and thicker than even last year that i had to do a double take for a minute. Definitely not the skinny kid we saw here about 3 years ago. I actually think the will start him.
