We are the best team in the NBA

Post#1 » by HawksVictory » Tue Nov 17, 2009 4:34 am

3rd in scoring
3rd in point differential
4th in FG%
4th in turnovers
7th in defensive rebounding
8th in assists
4th in blocks
4th in assist/turnover ratio
Tied for the least amount of techs

Most importantly, best record in the NBA, 9-2! Take that haters!

As of now we are but there are 71 games left so lets not get to excited, but it sure is a great start!
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Is your team's crowd attendance as bad as wiretap states? Around 3000 spectators on Monday's game(well at tip-off)? I don't get it when your team is playing so well.

With it being so early during the season I have not really looked at the attendance numbers. I do believe that's been the only game this year where we had that amount of empty seats. I believe the early start times of 7pm EST scare some fans off from buying tickets because they're unable to make the game due to work. The best time for the games to start is 7:30pm.

Personally 7pm starts are hell for me. It's hard to get from work down to the arena by tip. I hustled last night and made it to my seat right at the tip (missing intros and anthem). Atlanta traffic isn't always the most forgiving either and 6-7pm from the northside is kind of slow. It was a bit sparse at the start, but it filled in well in the first half. 2nd half the crowd got into it and got loud on the comeback.

Another factor that is being overlooked in the attendance talk is that it is part of a 4 game home stand over 7 nights. It's expensive to make it down to the arena (parking, concessions, etc) and times are still tough. I think 4 games in 7 days will cause most people to pick and choose. Lacking the star power of Wednesday's game (Wade) or the convenience of a Friday or Saturday, this game was odd one out. Also while Portland was hot coming in there was no marketing campaign that I was aware of to alert potential fans to that fact. The Hawks realized in advance that the game was having low attendance as they had shut down some concession stands, didn't hand out game booklets on the way in, and didn't pass out thundersticks to the end court areas of the lower bowl.

It's a tough challenge, but if the guys can stay at the top of the standings for couple weeks we should get enough media coverage that Hawks fever might become an outbreak and more casual fans fill the remaining seats at Philips.

Easy now, that is impressive. But temper your enthusiasm a bit. There is a long way to go. But yes, I think your team is one of the best in the NBA, right now.
Talented yes, but mentally tough and tight? We'll see. We will see how they hold up when the they suffer a tough loss and hit a speed bump and resist the temptation to point fingers.
I still want to see how mentally and emotionally focused Josh Smith is before I am all in the Hawks getting past the Cavs, Celtics or Magic now that Rashard Lewis is back.
What is going on with Marvin Williams? I would give you Redd if I was the Bucks, but he doesn't fit into what you are doing...
If there is any way in the world my team could get Al Horford from you if they choose JJ over him, I would! Your team has really thrown around money.
Money to Marvin, money to Josh, money to Mike Bibby, (for some silly reason) and then money to Crawford...and then Zaza. You can't pay everybody there. Especially with the shrinking cap number and impending lockout in two years and THE FACT YOU GUYS DONT DRAW WELL...
That is why JJ won't sign with you now. He wants a max deal before this lockout not the $60 mil extension your offered. It would be a shame if you had to move him but he is unrestricted isn't he?

It wasn't a great crowd by any stretch, but the seats definitely filled up as the game went on. As EvilDallas said, a 7 p.m. start time on a weekday is a real problem for fans that have to deal with Atlanta traffic.

I wonder how many more people believe we're the best team after we blew out Miami last night. We shut down Wade like few teams ever do. Joe Joshson, Smoove, and Horford are all playing at an all-star level, while Crawford is leading the early push for 6 man of the year.

It's way too early to say any team is the best yet. I still think Orlando is going to be the team to beat in the East. I think Cleveland and Boston have question marks that the media will downplay until they are finally eliminated ala the 2009 Spurs or 2007 Heat.

As Smoove and Al goes, so does the Hawks.

If Joe has a bad night or gets hurt or if Crawford doesn't perform, the Hawks will be fine. As long as Al and Josh bring their defense and energy every night, the Hawks should be able to compete with any team in the NBA, even elite teams.

You look good this season... I still have a wait and see attitude on how playoff tough you will be. You guys have always had a ton of upside IF you played mentally smart and did not beat yourselves.

I like the addition of Jamal Crawford to your team as an extra scorer, he has helped. IF you keep playing like this definetely a team to be reckoned with.

Enjoy it..

We have the best record we aren't the best team.

The Lakers at the very least are better than us.

We will see how we matchup with Orlando next week.

No offense to Teague but maybe if we had Lawson over him, we could be the best team in the NBA. If we had Brandon Jennings we would be an epic team.

True, but you have to pretend to like Kobe Bryant, while we don't. That gives us the advantage.
