Ladle and tongs at the ready, Josh Smith was dishing out with a point guard's precision.

Life has been good to Smith, the Hawks' emerging star. Wednesday, the product of McEachern High returned serve.

The Hawks forward hosted an early Thanksgiving dinner for about 200 women and children from My Sister's House, an Atlanta Union Mission facility that provides emergency shelter and residential-recovery programs for women and children.

Said Smith as he addressed his guests, "I just want to put a smile on your faces if I could."

Smith bused the guests from the shelter to Philips Arena, where a feast had been prepared for them at the Hawks' practice court. Even the ride over was a treat for some of the children, who were impressed that the coach buses were outfitted with bathrooms.

When they arrived, cornbread, rolls, salad, sweet corn, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, sage dressing and, of, course, turkey and pumpkin pie, were arrayed in two buffet lines.

Shortly after, out came the host, dressed in a brown plaid shirt and denim jeans.

"Happy Thanksgiving," Smith said, a greeting that the women and children happily returned.

His trade kicker is probably the man reason why he's still here. I think Sund was willing to move him for the right piece but his trade kicker is very expensive.
