JJ turned down 4@$60M. He will be looking for a 5-6 year deal that he likely won’t be able to earn. He is not a max player and he is aging. It would be a big mistake for the Hawks to win a bidding war for JJ. The Suns didn’t even do it at a time when he probably had more value. If he walks, we’re screwed too. We won’t have cap space to bring in a viable replacement.

The obvious solution is a S&T. I know many are saying that we need to stay the course. We’ve been so bad for so long that it’d be crazy to shake things up.

I go back to the pre Bibby and Horford argument. Our team lacks balance. The roster is flawed. Bibby and Horford helped to ease the pain of being deficient at PG and C, but we are still unbalanced. We still need a real C and a better PG situation. If we stat the course, we’ve probably seen about the apex of the Hawks ascension; another 2-3 years of 3-6 seed Bball.

In the past I defended BK’s work even thought the team was unbalanced. I figured that at the right time, things could be moved into place to continue the move towards contenders.

The time to make some moves is upon us. JJ should be seen as a $15M expiring and we should trade him as an investment in the true potential of the team. Even if JJ is under-valued in the trade, it would be worth it in the long run to get back some young talent and avoid his next albatross contract.

Oh, and replace Woodson. Hate ugly coaching schemes; they undermine the beauty of talent.

So if you traded JJ for a center is your plan to play Josh smith at SF?

Yeah, maybe about 10 minutes a game as a power SF. Nothing wrong with a C/PF rotation of Horf/Smoove/real C. We have to get bigger.

I'd love to see our team build towards a rotation of C, Horf, Smoove at PF/C, MW and a buch of fast shooter/Slasher players like Crawf.

Kaman is probably the most available guy that fits what you are looking for.

Kaman would be good if we didn't miss 40 games every season.

Like I said, Joe, Zaza, and a second for Ray Allen, Kendrick Perkins, a first and a second. We turn into a defensive team which rules the paint, and runs the offense inside-out. We run a starting lineup of Bibby/Ray/Smoove/Al/Perkins, with Crawford and Marvin coming off the bench. We run our offense similar to how the Celtics do, except with more of an inside focus, since in this case our primarily ball handler would also be a spacing threat and our SF wouldn't be able to shoot, unlike the Celtics. If this doesn't work, we can either bring Smoove off the bench and start Marvin, or we can run a 3 man big rotation similar to LA.

Joe and Morris for Chris Paul and Posey

........ well, i'm just putting it out their. saves the Hornets about 60M. Hornets could probably get some really good young talent if they wanted to from another team, but this trade works out in trade machine.

That would make us so small in the backcourt... With that being said, would any team in the league be able to guard a Paul/Craw, or Paul/Teague or any of those combinations? I know they wouldn't want to. We could probably afford to do that since Posey, Smoove, and Al are all very good help defenders.

^ how is Paul/Crawford, Paul/Mo, or Paul/Posey small??? 6'0/6'6 just sounds average NBA backcourt?

I wish Sund never even offered him a contract like that. Joe Johnson is probably seeking around the 80 million Brandon Roy signed for and yet we low ball him with 60 million. Sure, add the fifth year to it and it's more money, but still not the ballpark number Joe is seeking.

Hawks were just trying to sign him to a reasonable contract; like they did with Smoove, MW, Bibby...was going to say Zaza, but he's not really a bargain.

If you want a champiobship without a superstar, gotta play the cap.

I'm very dissapointed in JJ this season. It's not only about the last few games where he's been a disaster. I said this about 2 weeks ago and here it goes again, the Hawks will have a very hard time giving JJ the same deal he was offered this past summer. Woodson to me is the one to blame here. His isolation play for JJ is terrible. WOODSON, when a guy holds the ball for 15 secs every time he touches it, THERE IS NO ball movement and this team looks terrible. I'm ready to see both of them gone by the end of the season. Have we ever had a better chance to get a guy like A. Jefferson, A. Bogut, or even Kaman with JJ playing this bad? LET THE GUY GO.

Yes there is something wrong there, and it comes down to money. I don't think the hawks could afford to pay Smith his money, a real center his, and then Horford his money when he gets a new contract.

The problem with a sign and trade is that it would have to be a team without cap space (because they would just sign jj outright), a team with enough contracts to match, and a team that would be a contender.

The problem is that A) I don't think Boston does it B) It's high risk/high reward, and I don't think Sund OR the ASG would like it.

Don't see how you can blame Woody's iso's for Joe's selfishness. Woody isn't telling him to hold onto the ball for 15 seconds and then take on the double-team all by his lonesome. When Joe gets the ball in a 1-on-1 situation, it is on him to create for himself and others.

Do you seriously think the management would pay the luxury tax, which would be the result of us having a 3 man big rotation all making big money, unless we have rookie deal players at the other position? I can't see them doing that unless we were a title favorite, which we're not.

the hawks do not NEED to get bigger.

their is such a lack of big offensive C's in the league right now, that it doesnt really matter. when was the last time the hawks lost a game because they were too small(not counting games with foul trouble)? exactly.

what the hawks need is a pg that creates for his team mates. that is all they need.

Don't understand why everyone still wants a "true center." Al and Smoove have been just fine this year. Last I checked, we lead the league in points in the paint.
