JJ for Ray Allen

what do you think about resigning JJ this offseason and sending him to Boston for expiring Ray Allen,Bill Walker and Lester Hudson?
Allen would finish out his career in Atlanta pairing with Crawford or either be used as a trade bait next midseason.
I am a Grizzlies fan from Memphis but the Hawks are my second favorite team. I love Horford, Smith, Bibby and even Williams and Crawford. I just have always looked at JJ as a borderline star who only plays that way for the money. If the Hawks can get to the Eastern Conference semi-finals or finals I might change my view on him.
I think Boston will probably eventually be a team of Glen Davis, Joe Johnson, Rondo and Player X from Garnett trade when its said and done. Pierce will probably retire in 2 seasons, same with Garnett(who i think will probably not finish his career in Boston) and probably will be traded for his contract in regards to getting younger players or draft picks.
Thought about getting Allen for maintaining cap flexibility while still having a proven winner?

I don't like any of these ideas about getting rid of Joe. I think we should wait and take our chances with him in the market. I really think we will be able to resign him or at least do a quality sign-and-trade in the offseason. I honestly don't see the selfishness that everyone else seems to be seeing. He is an All-Star and we need him. Any move of Joe this season will be a sign of panic by our front office.

Wow.
Rocketsftw, ya think ya mighta undervalued Joe a little? Ray Allen is nearing the end of his career, Hudson is a DL wannabe and Walker is a DL shouldbe.

When you have a 17-6 record there is no reason to make trades like this and Boston is the only team that benefits. I like Jamal Crawford very much, but if you have to rely on him at the 2, I believe we won't benefit as much, and I highly doubt will have as good of a record. Joe Johnson needs to be a fixture on this team until he tells Sund he wants the max and that's when we need to consider other options. (Give him the max, s&t, or let him walk)

Why would Bill Walker and Lester Hudson be worth switching from an expiring Joe Johnson to an expiring Ray Allen? If the concern is losing Joe then the centerpiece of the returning package probably shouldn't be an expiring.

huh???....... if the Hawks can resign Joe, then why trade him for an expiring?
Joe at this stage in his career = Ray at this stage in his career.... so why trade an young player for an old player?
if the Hawks can't resign Joe, then why no just make an offer to Bosh, Lebron, or Wade.... i'm pretty sure if the Hawks wanted to, they could clear alittle bit of cap and make an offer to Bosh and he would be more than happy to sign in ATL.

^^^ Not enough cap room to offer a max to someone else. We can exceed the cap to resign Joe, but not to make an offer for someone else because we wouldn't be a max salary amount under the cap (actually might not be any room under the cap at all depending where it comes in). If Joe wants to leave then a sign and trade is more likely than a mid-season trade (because who would offer much if they don't have an agreement on an extension).

Ugh Harry...there is one little flaw in your plan. If the Hawks wanted to go after a max free agent in 2010 then they wouldn't have signed Zaza/Marvin and/or traded for Crawford in the 1st place.

huh.... i think the Hawks also thought that they could easily resign Joe before the summer..... but that didn't work out.......... things change, plans change.

Harry...when is the last time the Hawks "easily" extended someone's contract before they hit free agency?

the Hawks don't extend offers before the summer, not for Josh, Marvin, Bibby, Zaza, etc..... the only person they did that for is,
Joe...... and he turned that down. have you been paying attention the last few years?

LOL-So we're going to pretend like the entire 2007 summer on this board wasn't spent analyzing the Hawks lowball offer of 5 years 45 million to Josh Smith which he(like Joe)turned down?
