OT:TNT crew

Post#1 » by HoopsGuru25 » Fri Jan 22, 2010 1:23 am

I know they are the best sports studio show going...but do these guys even watch the games? One of them had Shaq making the AS team. Webber actually argued Crawford over Joe Johnson. 2 of them had Aaron Brooks as an allstar while Chuck even said he deserved it over Paul(who is one of the greatest pg's of all time). All 3 of them had Mo Williams on their list.

I didn't even hear Stephen Jackson,Josh Smith,or Monta Ellis' name in a 60 minute show. I just had to make a thread on this because it offended my basketball sensibilities.

I personally think their pretty ignorant. Mo Williams should be in the 3 pt contest not the ASG. Shaq shouldnt even be thought of. Monta Ellis doesnt really deserve it in my opinion. He plays in an open offense, hes a ballhog, and takes an absurd amount of shots. I usually like what Webber has to say but when he argued Crawford I wanted to cry. Kenny seems to be the only one who watches basketball in the studio and he seems to stare at the box score more than the average joe. Just my 2 cents
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Seriously-is there something wrong with admitting that the Hawks and Bobcats 2nd best players are probably better than Cleveland's 2nd best player? Just for the record...my AS reserves would have been....

Rondo
Joe/Jax
Pierce
Bosh/Smith
Lee/

Paul/Deron
Roy/Ellis
Durant
Randolph
Gasol

^I agree with every reserve you got. Wish Horford would get it, but Lee is playing out of his mind lately. Ill be happy with two Hawks

I could see arguments for Ellis,Jackson, and Smith not making it-it was just the players that were up there.

Shaq and Crawford on any list=joke. I go back and forth on whether Mo Williams is overrated or underrated...but he's not good enough to be a unanimous selection regardless of their record. I view Brooks as being an upper middle class man's Nate Robinson. I wouldn't take him over Rudy Gay,Monta Ellis,or Tyreke Evans. Having an actual debate on national TV over whether he deserves to make the AS team over Chris Paul=fail.

I expect the Coaches to add Mo Williams knowing he won't be able to play, so he gets replaced, and two players become All-Stars with the one selection.

Chris Webber had both Shaq and Jamal Crawford on his list.

Charles and Kenny both had David Lee, Chris Webber laughed. Charles and Kenny agreed that David Lee is worthy over Al Horford and that it's not even close. Charles also had Joakim Noah.

The camera was off Kenny, but I believe he said he completely forgot about Joe Johnson, and he did apologize.

The TNT crew is the best! I don't agree with everything they say but they are fun to watch.

A coach naming Shaquille O'Neal to the team this year would be a bigger sham than Iverson starting.

Ahead of him in terms of C performance this year on playoff teams:
Bosh (he plays most of his minutes at C)
Noah (just barely a playoff team)
Horford
Perkins
and if you ignore record these guys are statistically only behind Bosh:
Lee
Bogut

Shaq essentially has the same numbers this year as Jermaine O'Neal or Roy Hibbert. Personally I go with Bosh as the backup C. Lee would have to put up insane numbers to get me to overlook 7 games below .500. For all-stars I think star/top player of a playoff team outweighs top player of a non-playoff team because the NBA there are always points and rebounds available by default. Brook Lopez almost has the same numbers as David Lee (less rebounds, but a lot more blocks). I argue that both are inflated by larger roles on bad teams.

Using the playoff team tie-breaker, I'm left with my backups as:
Joe Johnson
Rajon Rondo
Vince Carter (I hate it but he's the 2nd most worthy Magic player, I'd name Mo Williams and then replace him with Carter).
Paul Pierce
Josh Smith
Gerald Wallace (I give him the edge over Jackson to be the only Bobcats on the squad)
Chris Bosh (he's played at C most often which is why I give him the edge over Noah, Horford, and Perkins).

BTW, I don't think Iverson (of course) or even Garnett (due to missed games) really deserve to make the squad. If Iverson wasn't on the squad then maybe Crawford, Captian Jack or Rose might get a look as the last G. Say what you will but Crawford is as deserving if not more than Ray Allen who likely will get some mentions because of his rep and Boston's record. If Garnett is out for the game (possible given the amount he's missed) then I would look at Noah as the likely replacement as Bosh moves from backup C to starting PF. Although since Chicago is barely a playoff team then maybe Horford or Perkins has a prayer.

If Shaq makes the squad and the Hawks don't get a 2nd All-Star then I won't watch the game.

Does anyone know when they announce the reserves? It'd really suck if Josh, Horford, or Crawford missed out because an undeserving players like Allen Iverson made it thanks to idiotic voters.

Like I already said in the Crawford thread, they don't necessary use the Efficiency stat, but each year, the 12 players are nearly in top Eff list in their position. I would say a mix between Eff and PER would give you an even better idea, and except for some players being in very bad teams (they prefer a guy just behind in the stats but on the best winning teams).

What is sure: Josh Smith and Al Horford have to be considered.
Crawford have better PER numbers than Eff, but even if he performs in 4 quarters, and starts to make more impact than just scoring, the fact that Smith and Horford deserve more than him won't help him.

Here's my predictions.

Rondo (robbed for starting lineup)
Joe (lock)
Pierce (lock)
Bosh (lock)

That leaves a guard, forward, and a center.

Mo Williams would have likely been the other guard. I'd hate to see Vince Carter selected after he hasn't played great AND the team is struggling. Derrick Rose? Ugh- they'll probably just go with Vince based on his name and flash. Until I did this I really didn't consider that it isn't ridiculous to have Jamal Crawford as part of the discussion. I don't think he has a chance of making it over Carter but its definitely worht discussing.

At forward its pretty much going to be between Wallace and Smith. I think Wallace will get the spot based on FAR superior rebounding numbers. Josh started strong but has certainly tapered off.

At backup center I'm higher on Horford's chances than I have been all season. I don't think Lopez will get strong consideration because of the team record. I can't imagine why Noah would get picked over Horford but stranger things have happened. Perkins I'd have no problem with but I don't think he'll get strongly considered. It could go to Bogut, Lee, or Horford and I wouldn't hate the decision. But honestly I think Horford is probably a slight favorite. I think he is still only about 30% to make the team but that is probably higher than any of the other guys.

With Iverson starting in the EAST, does anyone really take the ASG seriously? That's the most pathetic thing ever.

Who gets selected is far more interesting to me than the actual game.
