Josh Childress question

Post#1 » by daddyfivestar » Fri Jan 29, 2010 10:38 pm

I see in espn that ATL will still have RFA rights on Childress this summer, which also means cap hold at over 10 mil it looks like (since the current hold is 10,894,337).

What might you guys look for in moving his rights?

edit- I read that he is RFA as long as ATL extends a QO to him, and on the CBA board it said the only way he can be moved is via S&T... so it would have to be a player for player deal, not just picks.

I'm thinking the Hawks will look to move him in a S&T to a team in the WC that's under the cap. LA Clippers seem like a perfect fit for all three parties:

Atl --> Gets Josh out of the EC
LAC --> Gets a defensive wing to complement all that scoring
Josh --> Returns home

I think we'll extend a QO initially, but whether we try to S&T him will depend on what happens with Joe and the ultimate cap level. If Joe resigns and it pushes us close to luxury tax then Josh might get to walk by forcing our hand. If Joe walks then the team will have to decide whether they want to use the cap space or maintain Josh's rights.

Remember that Childress must make up his mind by the 15th of July. That's working in the Hawks' favor.

Cool thanks.

Yes, I read that he has the "opt out" of Greece deadline.

Good point. I forgot about that. He'll have to make up his mind before Joe's situation probably plays out then.
