Golden State wavied Speedy Claxton

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sat Feb 6, 2010 10:12 pm

The Warriors have waived Speedy Claxton (and his expiring $5.2 million contract) to make room for D-League call-up Anthony Tolliver. Link

Ha- I actually would have liked Tolliver on this roster.

Ironically If speedy was at all able to play he would be exactly what this team needs in a backup pg.

I guess Golden State has given up on the trade market as Speedy's expiring deal would probably been helpful in cap math.

Why? To wear a suit on the bench?

Hey I don't know. Speedy was talking about getting back to actually dunking the ball before the season just to remain on the bench all season while Golden State supposedly collected insurance payouts. I don't know what to believe, is Speedy actually healthy and capable of still playing or were his comments and limited stint last season just him giving out his last breath as a player.
Honestly, Speedy, when healthy, would have been the perfect defensive backup for this current team.

Only is some contexts. In others, he's dead weight. Tolliver is unpredictable but GSW is shorthanded and he's had 4 double-double games in his 20 day run. What would be the ideal skillset in the next draft, for a high rd 2...Tolliver has.

GSW's whole hope is about youth + quantity of quality.

Speedy may be healthy enough to play...in the local rec league. The problem is he's short of NBA minimum stuff now. GSW never got him to PLAY.

I understand Golden State was put in a bad position with injuries which forced their hand, but Speedy's expiring deal would have been useful to make trade math worked if they were serious about making a move this year. With him gone it signaled to me that GSW had tried to make deals to improve the long term hopes and couldn't find anything. As a player Speedy was done, we knew that when we traded him.
