Is Crawford a PG?

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Mon Feb 8, 2010 2:47 pm

this is kind of an extension of the "what if Joe doesn't resign" threads.

Jamal pretty much handles the ball when he is in the game and backs up Bibby more than he backs up Joe.

besides resigning Joe, and clearing up cap space and making an offer to Bosh, Lebron, or Wade, can the Hawks play Crawford at PG and use the cap space to sign someone like Ray Allen, John Salmons, Roger Mason, Raja Bell, Mike Miller, or Josh Howard.

or the Hawks can use the cap to sign a guy like Camby, Ilgauskas or Brad Miller, and hope that the duo of Bibby/Teague works.

First off, there is no cap space to be cleared.

Secondly, Jamal backs up Bibby more than he backs up Joe because you don't sit Joe in the 4th qarter. Lately, Jamal has been inserted for either Marvin or Bibby, whichever one is less productive.

If Joe leaves, ATL would insert Crawford into SG and would then have to scramble to fill in the bench.

Jamal is the prototypical combo guard. I know that isn't actually a position so there really isn't a prototype for a non-position, but if there was he would be it. He can light it up offensively in many different ways (long range, mid range, breaking down defenders, and getting MOVING players good looks). And like most combo guards he struggles defensively a bit rather it be guarding smaller, quicker guys or taller, stronger guys.

With that being said, I think he is putting more emphasis on his defense and that should be credited to Woody calling him out.

We would be OK with our starting lineup with him in there rather than Joe, but the bench (and our record) would suffer.
