T-Mac be a great option if Joe walks. I think the atl is a great option of any player wanting to win and it should not cost use more than half of Joe's Max. Thank about a backcourt of Crawford/TMAC and Bibby/teage off the bench!

I respect your point on not offering Joe the maximum, but I think there is a strong chance that T-Mac would be a waste of money even at the MLE. He has only had 1 year in the last 5 in which he's played over 70 games. Several years he's missed 30+ games. He'll be 31 and he's already broken down. I think investing in him sets you up for the inevitable "we might have a shot if he wasn't injured" annual hell that Rockets fans have experienced for years now.

If Joe signs elsewhere, would it make more sense to use the cap room to shore up the front line with someone like Brendan Haywood (should be in that price range)? Then either fill the bench scoring role with a less expensive pickup like Anthony Morrow or someone similar. This strategy primarily hinges on us using the MLE and BAE by staying technically over the cap with Childress's cap hold. Sadly, I don't believe the dollars left under the cap without Joe and Childress are enough to do even this much.

#1 - TMac and Crawford at the same time is one of the worst combinations ever conceived.
#2 - Joe Johnson is 100x the player TMac is today
#3 - Superstars win championships, I can't see a Detroit-style team winning it again for a long time
#4 - If the Hawks really wanna win a championship, trade Marvin Williams for a Center, please.
#5 - With TMac's history of injury, he's not even worth the MLE anymore... I love TMac but he's done.
