Available Centers?

Are the Hawks not trying to get a center? Camby to Portland, Heywood to Dallas. Atleast act like you want a center. We can't win a big playoff series without a true center. Dang we should've went after Camby. Oh well, I guess D. Howard will continue to have a private party in the paint whenever he plays against the Hawks.

Who did you have in mind for the hawks to trade to match salary for Camby? The Clippers weren't going to take someone like Maurice evans in a trade.

We've got no real assets to trade. No expiring contracts except Joe. Even our 1st rounder is projected late which lowers its value. Also I doubt that Sund has the go ahead from ownership to throw in the cash considerations (up to 3M max). The only hopes for help would be Kurt Thomas (already rumored) and Ben Wallace (who would only be traded if he wants to go). We made our bed at C in the off-season when we resigned Zaza and signed Joe Smith and Jason Collins to the minimum.

There aren't a lot of C who could hang with the likes of Dwight Howard anyway, but they are doubtful to be on the bargain rack. Sometimes you can't meet strength head on and actually have to get creative in devising a game plan to overcome a lineup like Orlando's. We've not shown the ability to do that yet.

Available Center in our price range = Brian Butch, NBA D-League All-Star game MVP.

You guys are right, it's just so frustrating to see Camby get away. I wonder what Portland does next year when Oden and the other center they have get back.

I may be mistaken but Przy has a player option for next year (but he is injured so he likely won't risk losing that money) and Camby will be a fa.

If Drew Gooden is bought out does him become a help candidate? We are a contender, are under the luxury tax and still have the MLE to utilize going over the minimum? He's not ideal, but his per minute rebound and scoring totals aren't bad for an old man.

^ Get Gooden or Thomas. We need a big. I think its imperative to get one if we want to do anything in the playoffs past the 1st round.

Short term I will go after Ben. He is the only one who on any given night really affect Dwight Howard's game...

If Drew Gooden get the buyout from Washington he is expected to rejoin Dallas after the 30 day waiting period.

The entire buyout situation needs regulated and changed. It's bad enough that it is a way for a handful of top teams to augment their bench for the stretch run, but the return to the team that traded you smacks of under the table deals and secret promises. What's the point of requiring salary matching in a deal if it can be circumvented so blatantly?

I agree. Imagine how big Cleveland will be if they acquire Amare, Jam, or Troy Murphy, and when Big Z gets bought out to rejoin them.

Right, and I am pretty sure it's the plan of Sund.
Why trade now since the team looks good. They will hope that they can avoid CLE and ORL in ECSF, and try to improve from last year and go to the ECF (or at least avoid a 0-4 series), then if they can keep Joe, they will use the MLE to get a guy like Camby, or even Brad Miller.
If there is money for that under the luxury tax next year.

Actually, if there was no big drop in next year salary cap and luxury tax, it would be perfect, but...
