I just thought of something. As we all know, the Hawks' wallet will be really tight this summer. In order to save some cash, how about we look to trade Marvin away for a friendlier contract, and give Joe Alexander a shot?

The guy is currently on the Bulls, although he's not really playing. Since he's been drafted, he's had a few injuries and surgeries that surely slowed his development, to the point where Milwaukee, how drafted him in the lottery, decided to ship him away rather that resigning him this summer. Before his injuries, though, he was seen as being a very versatile 3 producing on both ends of the floor, with great potential at that.

Now I have nothing against Marvin. He might have a down year statistically, but I still find him efficient on a strong Hawks team. But let's face it, he'll never reach his potential in this system playing next to these players. I don't think he'll ever justify his contract here. And I think Alexander's skill set might be a better fit than his in Atlanta. I don't think he'd be ready to start just yet (far from it, actually), so that's were the "player with a friendly contract" comes in play. I really can't think of a realistic deal right now, but you get the idea.

^In college, as an athlete, he looked like Josh Smith-lite. I think some scouts hoped he'd play that way. He hasn't developed well, has he?

Ignoring Joe Alexander and focusing on the other portion of your suggestion (trading Marvin and going cheaper at SF), what kind of trade market do you see for Marvin? If Marvin blossomed this season he would be considered a bargain, but he hasn't. As such his trade value is fairly low at the current time. It's not that he doesn't have potential, but he's yet to show enough drive to make someone think he will reach his potential. Marvin's got to show more to drive his value up.

I would be a horrible GM whenever I had to draft. I thought this guy would be a beast in the NBA. Now, I still think he's got talent to play in this league, but there's no way he can start specially for a playoff team anytime soon. Marvin's biggest problem is JJ. He barely touches the ball and has no motivation since he won't get to shoot the ball anyway. I think if JJ leaves, his numbers should significantly rise. Now, with that being said, forget about him being a 20/9 guy. He's got NO game for that.

Alexander was drafted as a project, but he turned out to be a total bust.

To begin with, he resisted the coaches advice in Milwaukee. He figured that he knew better than the coaches - that he had succeeded at West Virginia and that he knew how to succeed in the NBA.

I have seen him play in about a dozen NBA games. He has some great physical skills - he can jump and has a decent shot - but he has no idea where to be or how to play the game. He is not a basketball player. He is lost when it comes to team defense or team offense.

He doesn't seem to have much of a work ethic. He had a chance, and did very little with it. Milwaukee made the decision to let him go for nothing after two seasons, rather than commit to even the qualifying offer. In other words, after having seen him up close for an entire season and off season, they opted not to go for the "nice pick up tho for cheap".

Alexander was given every chance in Milwaukee and was completely terrible, the only thing he accomplished was banging some slut Milwaukee Bucks cheerleader. The Guy has a quick first step and can jump high, that's it.

Taller, white Gerald Green. He is and always will be fail.

From the comments of the Milwaukee fans it sounds like he won't be a player until he grows up and learns to listen and work. Bigs may skate by and get several extra chances without work ethic, but the competition is too great for a swingman. He might get a camp invite, but it sounds like he better start looking for a regular job (unless he saved all his money from the rookie deal).

Not a bucks fan or a bulls fan, but Joe Alexander sucks. Remember that Kovoloz guy the Clippers took a couple years ago, thats who Joe dreams to be.

One of the nice things about this free agency period, is that a ton of guys who don't deserve to be in the NBA most likely won't be next year; Jerome James, Alexander, Adam Morrison, Kwame Brown (could be, should be, but I doubt he will be out), Steven Hunter (see Kwame Brown), Rafer Alston, Sasha Pavlovic, and Sean May (see Kwame Brown).

He hasn't seen much of the court for us yet. Doesn't appear he ever will. And along with what Bucks fans say. The fact that even with the borderline D-league lineup we had to throw on the court the prior week, he still wasn't trusted enough to play.

He does have two highlight plays for us this year in short time though. The poster, your guy West put him on in mop up time. And a flawlessly executed shoulder tackle on Anthony Johnson going for a loose ball on National TV.

I get what your saying, but there's probably a long list of more productive players to pick up at a near minimum contract.

Ha ha ha ...go right ahead. I would take Marvin on the Bucks though and come back and rip your team up.
I still think the Bucks will go after Josh Childress again who the Hawks own rights to so we might part with Carlos Delfino for you in exchange?
At least I would...but we'll see I am not the Bucks or Hawks RealGM. But if your team is looking to sale the team as reported, I am not sure if this is your last stand this or if JJ will come back?

I went to WVU with Joe. The guy has a very disciplined work ethic. Thats something no one has ever questioned- that is, anyone who knows him. To say he sucks- no way. Maybe the NBA is just not his game- who knows. The guy is crazy athletic and I hope he gets a chance.
