I picked up his book about him and Russell shortly after Bill's passing and got through half of it before packing it for a weekend trip and completely forgetting about it until this thread. A good read so far and to anyone interested it's called, "The Last Pass".

Man, the current Celtic players should make a habit to visit with such legends like Cousy and all other Celtic legends that live locally. Just take them out to lunch and express gratitude for them and listen to their stories during their playing time with the Celtics.

Sad that he's so immobile now.

As recently as 2019 he went to the White House. I think the last time he visited the team and talked with them was a while after that.

thanks for posting this, canman, and happy 95th to one of the greatest to ever play the game. I feel like Cousy is really underappreciated by the general basketball public. Most wouldn't even think to rank him as an all-time great PG.

Greatest PGs I've got Magic, then Steph, Oscar, Stockton, Cousy, and Isiah in some order.

Probably only some of us know that for ages Cousy called road games with Tommy, while Mike and Tommy did the home games. Cous was a hoot -- honest and ornery and insightful.

I didn't know that. I just recall Cooz as an occasional second color commentator, with a knack for predicting the outcome of a game after seeing the flow of the first few minutes.

My favorite memory of that pairing is Cooz telling a story of getting so tired of heckling by a Philly fan that he decided to bean him with a pass. He alerted Tommy, who then "failed" to catch the pass at the key moment.

I loved watching games with Mike, Tommy and Cous announcing. Especially when I got them on the C-Band Big Ugly dishes and when there were commercials, I could just watch the crowd being panned and listen to the comments when they thought they were off the air. Of course, Tommy was having a smoke in the tunnel a lot of times.

I remember a game back during the dog years of the early 2000s when Mark Blount was our starting center (barf). Cousy was talking about feeding the ball to the centers in their preferred position on offense, and right when he said that the ball was passed to Blount who wasn't expecting the pass at all and bobbled it away out of bounds.

Tommy let out a disgusted "jeesh!" while Cousy said, and I quote, "it also helps if he can catch the ball..."

His desert-dry wit was hilarious.

He wouldn’t be able to even hang in the plumbing game nowadays.
