Re: Welcome to Boston, Payton Pritchard! – (Re-signed: 4yrs/$30M)
Earlier this year I was watching TJ McConnell and hoping if Brad could somehow trade Pritchard and other assets to get TJ. I just love TJ's game It is so efficient and he is a career 51% shooter. He's KILLED us in games.
So why is TJ shooting 55% this season and PP 45% when PP is a better shooter? Because TJ is so good at going to the hoop and finishing. PP is correctly taking a good amount of 3s but got virtually no layups......until recently this season. Now he rarely drives the ball in, only to get stuck and then pitch it back out. He's going in trying to score and succeeding.
We'll see if this can continue. But it does seem he is taking his game to another level.

Pritchard has only one move for getting layups up. He stops, bumps into the defender, then uses that gap to shoot. That's been working for him so far but in the playoffs you need either more than just one single move that can easily be taken away or that single move has to be a less weak, less easily stopped move.

If Jrue remains out for most of the rest of the RS, can PP be spicy enough to get some 6th man of the year attention?

Hence I wrote "we'll see if this can continue." This is his first real attempt going inside. Can he develop a floater? That could create space. He already has a little fadeaway shot in the paint. PP is a motivated, confident player so I see him working at his game.

Or even get his midrange pull up off faster and at a higher release point like Kemba. But above all he needs more guile around the basket like TJ.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Payton Pritchard! – (Re-signed: 4yrs/$30M)
If Jrue and Derrick are healthy anything the Cs get in the playoffs from PP is just a bonus. Not like they’re relying on him to score in the paint. But it’s encouraging that he’s learning how to, and the effort and outside shooting will be there.
Big picture, with Jrue’s age and the Celtics salary cap situation, there’s going to be the chance for an increasing role for Pritchard here long term. Right now he’s guy 7 or 8. Give it a few years and he might be guy 5? Can’t believe I’m saying that but I am. (Walsh, of course, will be our #1 at that point:)

Pritchard's play has definitely been exciting lately. He has a lot of upside.

TyusJonesesque. Speaking of, PP should watch how Tyus Jones can get to his spot and take open shots. PP may need a floater game at some point. And my original comp, TJ McConnell.

In this world of basketball reference, where every player obsess about their %, PP just don’t care about % busting buzzer beaters.
And honestly, wanting to take those shots, I guess that’s actually a skill, lol…
A lot of players just don’t want to take them.
