Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
The NBA really went through the trouble of breaking a tie between the Pels and Bucks even though the Pels had the pick swap with Milwaukee and would have gotten the better pick anyway
I don't understand why those GMs keep swapping for like the #21 pick and don't just pick swap for the #1 pick like the Celtics did in 2017. It feels suboptimal to me.

No 1st rounders this year.

Get out of the 1st Round.
30 and 54 maybe? Or 30 and a future second.
I think 34 is probably as valuable as 30 because the options with a second rounder.
I think the trade would be 30 for 40 and a future 2nd from the blazers.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
The 3 drafts since Brad took over:
2021: traded 1st round pick, drafted Begarin at 45 (signed Hauser as UDFA)
2022: traded 1st round pick, drafted Davison at 53 (signed Trevion Williams as UDFA)
2023: traded 1st round pick, drafted Walsh at 38 (signed Vincent Valerio-Bodon as UDFA)
The blueprint seems to be: trade 1st round pick, draft 1 guy in the 2nd round and sign 1 UDFA)
I don't think we need to draft 2 or 3 guys. Just 1 is fine.
I'm fine is we trade pick 30 and just try to draft a hidden gem (perhaps someone like Jelavic) at 54.
In the next couple weeks, we'll probably start hearing reports about different guys coming in for pre-draft workouts with the Celtics.
The deadline for guys to declare for the draft is 4/27. Perhaps workouts will start after that.

Brad’s approach is reasonable…..unless there is another Jaime Jacques sitting there at 30.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Sure, you never know - Brad could maybe keep pick 30 and grab someone there if someone is still on the board who he *really* likes and feels it's worth it to give them that roster spot, guaranteed contract and 1st round pick $, given how deep/talented we are at every position and being a 2nd apron team.
FWIW, if there's a Jaquez of this draft I think it would probably be either Jamir Watkins, Jaylon Tyson or Nique Clifford. Also Dalton Knecht but he's basically like a consensus top 10 pick at this point so no way in hell we get him..Those other 3 guys at least have somewhat of a chance at falling to 30.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
After seeomg Embiid hampered by injuries at the end of a season for the e;eventy-eigth time, I'm even more concerned about Zach Edey's prospects. Guys that big just won't hold up that long because their bodies just won't allow it. Edey needs to lose something like 50 lbs in order for me to trust him. Nothing worse than a draft pick who is never available.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I wouldn’t take Edey if there were 90 picks.

Yeah, that's one concern I have with Clingan too (not that he would be on the board when we pick).
But it's perhaps more of a concern with Edey, since he's about 300 lbs, compared to Clingan who is about 30 lbs less at around 270 lbs.
With that being said, Edey has pretty much a clean bill of health, has not really had any significant injuries in college..whereas Clingan had a minor foot procedure before this past season started, and missed a chunk of games in the middle of the season when the foot injury popped back up.
Also, Edey consistently was playing 30-40 MPG, whereas Clingan was usually only around 18-25 MPG so it seems like Edey's body can handle more of a workload. Whether that continues at the NBA level remains to be seen.

Well Edey will never be asked to do half of what Embiid does. Plus Embiid goes/falls to the floor more than any ever except Marcus Smart it seems.
and for someone who "wouldn't take Edey with 90 picks" just drew a line in the sand.
Edey may never get close to becoming a quality high level starting center, but I feel he will definitely carve out a role somewhere.

I am definitely not so high on zach that I could rule this out as a possibility. But with that said I feel zach is better in every single category.. Especially in the hands and coordination department.. And that will give him a career in the NB.A at some level

I tend to agree he’s better across the board than Tacko, but a better tacko is what he reminds me of as a baseline. Better enough for that to matter is the big question. I lean no, but, who knows? Maybe he hits Muresan level? Can he compromise a defense consistently enough with scoring and passing enough to overcome his lack of mobility on D? Jokic does. Tacko couldn’t. Will be interesting to see.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
All this talk about Edey while the Celtics face Jovic's Heat (who I wanted in that draft after watching his performance with Serbia versus France in the semis but I digress) reminded me of this:
2021 FIBA U19 World Cup all tournament team
Nikola Jovic
Jaden Ivey
Victor Wembanyama
Chet Holmgren
Zach Edey
This is absolutely insane when you consider there hasn't been any other year with 2 NBA starters in the tournament team.
