Rockets waived Springer.
So if Spring is really that good, no way the Rockets waive him after getting him at a bargain price.

I know you might be using some hyperbole here to be like half joking.

But Jaden Springer dropped 23 (making it look easy) in summer league on a Heat team that had Jaime Jaquez and Kel'El Ware and went on to win the summer league championship. He dropped 26 in a game for our G league team.

He averaged 18 a game for a full G league season, winning MVP of the G league finals.

This season (albeit in a small sample size) he is 1st on the Celtics in FTr (which indicates an ability to attack the basket, take contact, go up strong near the rim, break your man down off the dribble so they have to foul you in order to prevent an easy basket) and is among the league leaders in FTr and has an improving 3 ball (35% on the season, 41% if we include preseason + summer league..also shot 43% from 3 in college)

In college (at age 18) dropped 30 on Georgia, dropped 23 on Kentucky, had 21 pts and 7 assists vs LSU.

And impressed Steph Curry at this event when he was only 18:

I assure you, he would wreck your rec league team, pun intended :)

Not that it matters that much anyways, since we he's more of a defensive specialist who's probably a top 10 (maybe even top 5) POA defender in the league right now so it's kind of silly to be so critical of his offense.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "that good".

No one said he's an all-star or a hall of famer here.

Rockets waived him because they're one of the best and deepest teams in the league. Notice they didn't add anyone at the deadline. Because they're playing good basketball and Ime is having a hard enough time finding any playing time for Sheppard (3rd pick in the draft) and Whitmore (20th pick but most projected him to be a top 10 pick).

A team like Utah, Washington, Charlotte, New Orleans, Brooklyn or Portland should absolutely sign Springer. And if they don't, they're missing out. NBA GM's make lots of mistakes - they miss on players a lot.

Lastly, tons of good players have been waived. Isaiah Thomas has been waived. Lonnie Walker (who many C's fans think is the greatest player) got waived. Javonte Green (who many C's fans wanted) got waived. Daniel Theis got waived. Torrey Craig (who many C's fans are so excited about signing) got waived. Luke Kornet has been waived. Tons of other good players have been waived. Gary Payton has been waived. Gary Payton II was waived and then helped contribute to the Warriors 2022 nba title. Moe Wagner was waived by us, then goes to Orlando and has been a solid player - now on an 8 figure contract. We waived Max Strus, then he gets picked up by Miami and helps them beat us in the ECF.

There's many other examples..

Guess we'll just have to wait because if no team signs him then maybe no team is seeing what you're seeing.

Springer was probably asked to go down to Maine a few times, refused and that friction was created. I don't see a team picking him up. He'll be in the G next year.

So he was insurance in case they weren't able to have an extension agreement with one or more of Holiday/White/Hauser. He would've been a shorter project than a 2nd round rookie and would be ready to contribute, at least in the regular season. That makes sense. That's worth a 2nd or two. And had he panned out, they could've kept him or traded him for something.

That's still more minutes than Celtics legends Scot Pollard, PJ Brown, Pervis Ellison, Keith Bogan, and Austin Rivers among others.

DA gives Svi a great contract in Utah and he gives Jaden a 10 day contract to keep his NBA dream alive. Maybe he's trying to get on Brad's good side for a future move. :D

Maybe a PP and a 1st for Kessler is on the horizon??

That's a nice list but there's NO WAY Pervis belongs on it, right?
I spent a lot of my adolescence watching Pervis play in green. I mean, that's hyperbole, but he must have logged at least 1000 minutes in Celtics regular season minutes. And I think I have it straight, because there weren't many playoff minutes to go around in those days! :)

Constable, I think you should claim you were hacked, maybe by Zoya?

Pervis: 6 years in Boston, 1 out for the full year injured.
Games played for BOS = 193 (little less than 39 per season played; little more than 32 per season under contract).
Minutes played for BOS = 3,355 over 5 years (2,500 of those minutes over the first 2 years, then became very sporadic)
Games started for BOS = 57
BOS career averages: 4.7ppg, 5rpg, 1bpg on 50/0/68% in 17.4mpg

Playoffs in BOS? Yes, 4 games in 1995 (must be the year Dominique led them to getting swept by the Shaq Magic) -- did not start, played 68 minutes total = 17 mpg

Hey, PJ Brown wasn't here long but he's a legend if only for one clutch shot.

total fact
I'm guessing he played 10 regular season games; 95 minutes
checking now: 18 games; 209 minutes (regular season)
playoffs that year: 25 games; 341 minutes(!)
regular season: 2/4/0.6bpg in 11 mpg
screw counting stats though: 0.12 WS/48; -3.5 OBPM, 0.9 DBPM
playoffs: 3/2/0.4 in 14 mpg
0.11 WS/48; -3.5 OBPM, 2.4 DBPM that last # was what he was there for, right? But he did this:

Good to see. Happy for Springer. Doesn't he still get paid from his old contract too?

I think so, he wasn’t bought out.
So it’s $4.18 million from us
A 10 day from Utah which is $125,000 for a player with 3+ yrs experience
Then signed for the last 20 games, another $500k

Jaden Springer should be thanking us for waiving him, he made out … lol

Return to Boston Celtics
