I watched and liked all of them, but this is maybe my favorite. Nothing fancy here, nothing you have to draw up or practice -- just value-added passes that help the team.

Yup. Definitely worth developing to see what he could become and how he could do out there if he has playing next to guys like Tatum, Brown, White, etc.
1/11/24 The birth of a new Hal. From now on being less combative, avoiding confrontation - like Switzerland :)

His best attribute offensively seems to be his passing and he'll never get the reps at the NBA level where a coach let's the offense run through him to make the most out of that skillset.

Why not?

If you've got a player who's really good at something, why not use it?

If we develop him and maximize that passing ability, he could be a passing hub up top, hitting cutters, throwing dimes to shooters, getting us quality shots at the basket.

Why wouldn't we do that?
Because coaches tend not to force feed minutes to a 2nd round pick with obvious holes in their game. It's not that I don't think we should try to develop him and use his skillset, I just don't think he's going to get the minutes he needs if he's not in Maine.

He's 3rd C at best, he needs to be in the action to be useful on offense, that's not a good combo for seeing the court. His shot looks broken, wouldn't count on that turning around in a major way. That would mean he'd have to be incredibly adept at the other parts of his game to be useful at the NBA level. He's not going to refine that getting spot minutes as a garbage time C.

Queta/Garza are definitely ahead of him on the depth chart, Boucher I think could see stretch 5 minutes, Tillman still kicking around. Give him a chance at the G league to prove himself worthy of getting force fed some minutes/opportunities where he could actually succeed at the NBA level.

It's not that Amari Williams is gonna be running the offense, it's that a big who is that big, can screen JT free by laying the wood on tatum's primary defender, then receive the pass from JT as the defense is scrambling to contain, and then re-hit JT on the move to get him some assisted finishes. It's not Amari running the offenses, it's his instincts in the two man game to pass tatum open.

We haven't really had that since Rob.
It still requires him to be part of the action (not to mention our lack of JT next year). It's great that he has that skillset but his problem is going to be how he sticks on the court if he's a net negative if you're not running action with him. I think he'll be better off playing consistent minutes with a regular role rather than yo-yo'ing in and out of the lineup at NBA level. As Hal points out he can score from the dunker's spot and he could be a good rebounder, so maybe he's a net positive straight out the gate but to me he looks incredibly raw still.

I think it's safe to assume he's going to see more than his fair share of struggles early on, even in the areas he's supposed to be strongest. Even if our frontcourt is trash, I think he's still got a long way to fighting for any significant minutes. G league is supposed to be a development league, he's a guy I can actually see benefiting a lot from it.
