Garza is fine. He is a skill player with average athleticism. He is a good athlete.

He doesn't have fast twitch explosiveness.

I mean sure, Luka would be an amazing athlete in my Rec league, but the context we're talking about is playing significant NBA minutes. He hasn't yet, and this year will, and it's fair to wonder if his defensive limitations will be a problem for the Celtics.

Luka will never be confused with smooth or quick... but at least he makes the effort... interesting twitter post from his dad...

I like his will to fight and hustle. Good rebounder and pick setter
He is giving everything out there
Lacks speed, but I guess the coaches will find a scheme where he isn't a liability on defense

yo that's a fun watch -- thanks for posting! Enjoyed seeing him swinging an axe, carrying a rock uphill, and trying to slide defensively in the ocean waves! Honest question: is his dad Frank an established basketball coach?

I said it in the Cavs game thread, a guy who should be a 14-16 MPG guy scoring 7-8 PPG. I have some critiques still about how the staff is using certain guys on offense, this is not one of them the last 2 games.

Yup...Garza, Minott, Hugo and Boucher have all been giving it their all out there - good to see.

He is performing more than adequate as a back up big. Maybe it’s not pretty like some graceful long dude stroking threes and blocking shots, but he is really getting the job done.

He plays as hard as anyone. Too bad he so unathletic. As a 3rd center on a minium contract he is great.

I love watching him "sprint" back on defense.

If Garza continues to play well then that will buy more time for Brad to make a move.

Luka Garza is a great 3rd center. Could see him sticking around a while in that role.

A graceful long dude stroking threes and blocking shots would probably be making like $20mil a year, if not more. Holmgren is making on average like $48 mil a year on his extension.

It's hard to get a better player than Garza on a vet min deal..

Yup..and the longer he sticks around, I bet over time our development staff helps him to get his 3 FG% up and he picks up more things to help him be more serviceable on D..

You can't teach size and you can't teach hustle/motor/grit/playing hard though and he's got plenty of that.

Yeah for sure. Probably hard even at the tax payer MLE.
Which reminds me we need to lock up Queta long term before he adds a 3 ball
