Huge credit to all the players on this roster and the coaching staff for being one collective. There are a lot of guys with reasons to go out for themselves. A lot of guys who'd have reasons to come at Joe for lack of minutes. But that doesn't happen here.
Yeah, this is so important. In the NBA the biggest job as a head coach is not x's and o's or rotations, it's getting guys to play for each other and for the team. Joe has shown the ability to do that when the team is full of superstars, and he's shown the ability to do that when the team is full of guys playing for their NBA careers. No matter who is there, this team always seems to have a great locker room under Joe. Credit to Brad also who brings in high character guys but it's Joe who has to shape that into a team day in and day out.
We don't win games likes this unless we have that locker room unity and belief in each other.
I mean I love Joe but let's be real...Carlisle is one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. He's a transition offense mastermind and took that Indy team pretty close to beating OKC on the back of Halliburton, Siakam and Nemhart. They arguably had one top 20 guy in Halliburton and the single reason they made the finals was Carlisle's brilliant pace offense.
So while I agree with everything you guys have said about the importance of playing for each other and bringing out the best in your players, just remember their best players are Siakam and Nemhart this season. Nesmith has been injured, TJ McConnell has been injured, and their only top 20 player and the absolute lifeblood of their offense in Halliburton is injured.
Imagine our current team while Tatum is out without Jaylen Brown and without Tatum. We are lucky to have two top 20 players to carry us when one goes out.
But back to Joe, him putting the bench mob in their vs Indy was brilliant. We were getting torched on penetration and kick outs by the Pacers, and rebounding, and he said cfuk it and put Gonzalez and Garza in there. Even Simons was busting his azz on defense.
Was Jordan Walsh injured tonight? I dont remember seeing him and I only tuned in after the first quarter.
