I remember I had a Sports Illustrated or some magazine like that, like 10-15 years ago. It had a list of all the best trashtalkers in the league.
Jordan was number one. Payton was ranked somewhere around 15-20 if I remember correctly.
Bird was a great trashtalker.
Dikembe had the finger thing going for a while and that was pretty cool.
Barkley was a trashtalker, but he sometimes went overboard.

Gary Payton & Larry Bird. Payton was a great trash talker even after the 90's. Bird because some of the things i heard he did worry just crazy. He'd tell the opponent what play they were going to run and still score.
Jordan wasn't as much of a trash talker as he was a doer. He let his game speak.

Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Garry Payton, and it's not even close. They even had a Nike commercial once with his trash talking in it.

BIRD.
you guys kidding me picking anybody else?
damn.
celtics down 2 in phx, a couple ticks to go in the game, BIRD gets the rock, turns and throws up a deep 3, before that ball had gone in, BIRD turned to the SUNS bench and asked, "what's the problem, you didn't have another guy to guard me".
or the time in Seattle when X man was guarding him, a couple ticks to go: before the play started, BIRD told X, look, I'm getting the rock, steppin got my left, sticking it, and then we are all going home.
sure enough, BIRD executed.
BIRD used to ask every white player that had to guard him: "what happened, your coach doesn't like you?"
sure payton and MJ talked trash, but BIRD was simply on another level.

Or when Bird turned to the Philly bench and said to the coach, "You'd better get someone to guard me or I am going for a career high"...right infront of Dr. J (who was guarding him that game), and when Doc had something to say, Larry said "42-6, Doc", which was their point totals at the time and Dr J went crazy.
When you can antagonize a guy like Dr. J into the only fight of his career and it is captured in the famous photo of them choking each other...that's special!

that story actually was even better than that.
bird actually kept score that whole game, i.e. 10-2, or 20-4... it was only when he said 42-6 that Dr. J snapped.
that my friend is trash talking at its finest.

KC Jones: We are playing in Seattle. Five seconds left on the clock and the score is tied and it is our timeout. In the huddle, I am thinking Xavier McDaniel is guarding Larry.
