Thank you for the last two posters. This is LAC here not MEM who has a rebuild job and two better young PGs in Lowry and Conely.

LAC has about as much PG depth as we have. I don't see why they would buy Sam out rather then just let him expire or trade him. Hell at the very least in a rare shot, if they let him expire and he gets offered more then the MLE by some team, since LAC have his rights they can still get something.

I am very disapointed though that we're not signing Stoud and Cassell isn't a 70% sure thing.

Boykins is okay compensation but I'd rather have Stoud so against the offensively weak fast PGs he can still play some defense like House can agaisnt the offensivley weak slow PGs. Boykins is just too small for any of the PGs defensively to really matter every possesion he's on defense.

I think passing on Damon would be a big mistake, and I also don't see us picking up Boykins, he's too much of a defensive liability.

one thing about donald sterling- he loves $$ more than anything. If there were a legit way for the C's to pay the clips cash he would go for it

The Clippers have absolutely no reason to buy out Sam Cassel. It's not happening.

If he isn`t traded then why wouldn`t they buy him out? He isn`t going to sign with them after his contract is up and they aren`t making the playoffs..

Like red2 said sterling loves money and if Cassell would leave a substantial amount on the table then that is a good reason for them to buy him out.

Only way the Clippers buy him out is if Cassell takes a tiny buy out amount. There is no reason for the Clippers to do so otherwise. His contract is up at the end of the year anyways. If they can trade him and get something back, that's one thing, but they gain nothing by buying him out. The season is half over already, so they've already paid Cassell about $3M of his $6M salary.

That may well be what Ainge has in his back pocket, and why he isn't really looking for anything. He met with his agent but came away saying that nothing would happen. Perhaps Ainge asked if he would be willing to just come aboard 3/1 and he was more than happy to suit up for the playoffs and not be bothered with all the travel involved with the regular season that screws his back up anyhow.

We should probably sticky this thread and just label it "backup PG" talk, but...

Remember when Troy Hudson was being talked about over the offseason as a prime backup vet PG candidate, and how he was close to Garnett, etc? I'd still rather have Pruitt on-hand (or at least see how he shakes out before we sign someone) but nobody's mentioned his name lately at all since he was waived. Not saying he's the answer, but it's just something to think about.
