Redoing 2006

Post#1 » by Jimmy103 » Fri Feb 1, 2008 4:11 am

If they redid the 2006 NBA draft, would Rajon Rondo go #4?

Brandon Roy
LaMarcus Aldridge
Rudy Gay
Rajon Rondo
Tyrus Thomas
Andrea Bargnani
Randy Foye

Would that be right?

Looking back, that wasn't a avery deep draft. We got one of the best players at #21 (so far).

I think some GM's might still take Bargnani or Thomas before Rondo. But Danny got the steal of the first round, and a solid rebounder in Powwe out of the second. Not bad!

We got the best true PG in the draft class, no doubt.

Raise your hand if Rondo was your favorite point guard in the draft.

Well Gay, Roy, and Aldridge are clearly the class of the draft.

After that, you have a bunch players in the next tier, of which Rondo is one of them. Among the 2nd tier: Rondo, Thomas, Bargnani, Foye, Brewer, Lowry (and others that are close, and may be in that tier according to some people include: Boone, Marcus Williams, Shawne Williams, Farmar, Millsap, Craig Smith, Gibson).

Suffice to say, if it was redone he'd definitely be a lotto pick, my guess is mid/late-lotto. Let's not get TOO high an opinion of him. He's still very inconsistent, and many areas of his game he can improve, though he had a great game tonight.

Regardless, he turned out to be a huge steal. Kudos to Danny for making the right pick.

[hand remains still]

I didn't dislike Rondo (although that stupid YouTube mix of him at Kentucky nearly drove me to dislike him) but I wanted Sergio more. Jury's out on Sergio and whether he's a bum or bona fide, but Rondo is easily a top 6-7 player in that draft class.

You and I were probably the only ones. I wanted Danny to take Rondo with the 7th pick and everyone thought I was crazy. All they talked about was that he couldn't shoot and had an attitude problem with Tubby Smith. I saw Rondo play as a freshman in college and fell in love with him then. I thought he had a chance to be a great player some day.

Agree, all the way around.

As for mea culpas and pats on the back for good prognostication.....Rondo and Lowry were the two PGs I wanted. I favored Lowry due to Rondo's poor shooting (I felt the FT% was a harbinger to continued struggles). But at the time, I pointed to Rondo's defense, rebounding, and experience playing off the ball at Kentucky as indicators he would be impactful, if not a starting level contributor.

My guy in that draft was Ty Thomas. Though he's be a good compliment to Al. Bargnani I was intrigued with too.

I wanted Williams, Lowry then Rondo. But I will say I would have been happy with Lowry he is turning into a true floor general down in Tennessee

The poor free throw shooting 50% of Rondo worried me. I thought M. Williams would be a liability defensively. Kyle Lowry was my PG of choice.
I would love for the Celtics to get Lowry in a trade from Memphis.
