cassell will take a crazy pay cut/buy out to come here. he all but said he will pay to come here. it will happen and the clips can save some money.

cassell doesnt want to go anywhere else, he wants to retire soon. that will make it tough for any team to tempt him to come. it has to be a contender, a real contender or he is not gonna waste his time.

is it me or is that what you guys got from his comments. cassell is coming. bet your life!!!

just have KG share part of his salary to cover for Cassell's financial loss for taking the buyout. I'm sure KG has no problem with that :D

Also what I can't figure out is that Sam Cassell clearly has some value left and with Donald Sterling finally calling out Elgin Baylor won't Baylor look like an idiot just buying him out and getting nothing in return?

Now I realize Elgin Baylor is an idiot and he has done dumper things before (see Candy man pick).

That is the part of this story I just don't understand.

The deal is this there is a date following the trade deadline usually 30 days from the end of the season when playoff rosters freeze. This is the period of time generally when buyouts take place. Guys have no chance of being part of a trade and they have no future with the team so they get bought out in time to catch on with a playoff team.

It takes two to make a trade. If you are only willing to take back ending salary it makes it difficult to find a trade for an asset who is only a fit for a couple of teams in the league.

Sarcasm aside, I guess if they want to do that on their own it's OK, but better not even breath a word of it to anyone else. Remember, KG was with the Wolves through 5 1st-roundless seasons because of the under-the-table deal with Smith.

Cassell refutes buyout report

"There's no truth to it," Cassell said by telephone from Toronto, where the Clippers play Friday night. "I never said I wanted to buy out my contract. There have been no negotiations, the team hasn't come to me about that, I have not gone to them about that."

The 38-year-old Cassell had 10 points and three assists in the Clippers' 111-100 loss to the Celtics in Boston on Wednesday night.

"They misquoted me drastically," Cassell said of the report. "It's just not right for my teammates to hear I'd be a perfect fit in Boston."

Cassell referred to television coverage of the published report.

"That's not what I said," Cassell said. "The reporter said I'd be a perfect fit in Boston. I'm still a member of the Los Angeles Clippers and I want to win as many games as possible with the Clippers. I'm not happy that we're losing, but I have a lot of good teammates on this ballclub that I really enjoy being around."

Well this sucks. Maybe he caught some flack from management for coming out and being so open about the process. This could just be damage control (at least I hope it is)

I was starting to wonder why the intriguing dinner with KG and all those comments were not considered tampering.

I said this on the general board, but I'll say it here too. I dont believe for a second that the reporter just made a bunch of crap up. I can see not quoting him 100%, but I just can't see a reporter making up all of those quotes about how his agent is handling things for him. I dont know what will end up happening for sure, but sounds a lot more like damage control to me. If Cassell is telling the truth whoever reported his comments about wanting to play in Boston should be fired.

The deadline to be on a roster to be eligible for the playoffs is March 1.

That is actually after the February 21 trade deadline.

Since Cassell is being bought out, in theory, if the buyout cleared the league on February 25, and then it took Sam two days to clear waivers (BIG IF, but if this buyout occurs, I sometimes wonder if there is a deal for teams to not grab him off waivers already in place).

Because if Sam is claimed off waivers, then he won't make it to the Celtics, even if he is bought out.

Don't you have to be under the salary cap to claim somebody off waivers? My understanding is that you do. Considering this it makes it very unlikely Sam will be claimed as very few competitive teams are under the cap and these teams would be the only ones interested in Cassel's services.

You also have to keep in mind that if Sam's agent puts it out there that Sam only wants to go to the C's, teams would be wary of picking him up so as not to burn bridges with his agent.

i hope sam join the celtics ... line up of KG, Ray, PP, Sam would be one of the best. you cant hate that line up, only admire. sam has been a winner in this league since he was a rookie, he is clutch and has experience on championship teams... with that in mind probably one of the few additions celtics can do to make it a stronger contender. also sam has proven himself to gel with KG. KG and Sam pretty much took wolves to WCF too bad sam had to get injured that season. It really is unfinished business for Sam and KG to win the ship .

Yep, Minny was within a hair of going to the finals that year. Hopefully Sam and KG can get it done this time. Minny deserves a lot of credit for allowing KG to finally get another shot.

Another thing I like about getting Sam is that he also played with Ray.
