On the taking a dive rule... the good thing about the rule is that it only would have to be called every once and a while for it to take effect. The technical foul would be a strong deterrent to flopping and over-dramatizing contact. Only the most obvious fake jobs would get the call made. Coaches and players would have to live with the call just like any other. And once the penalty for taking a dive is handed out in a game I highly doubt another player would try to fake the funk.

That's the only way to clean up the faking. Create a serious penalty for those who do so. I'd also add that refs often are able to distinguish between the act job and the real thing. The excessive act jobs would get penalized under this rule.
