my point is that sam cassell is going to make a bigger difference down the stretch then people think because he knows how to finish games for one. for two, the old idea of leaving rondo open and making kg,pp, and ray beat you will now become problematic because you have to acount for sam as well.
my second point was that where i agree chauncey is a tough cover, he is not lebron james. meaning he is not unguardable. barkely was making it seem like there is nothing we can do to save us from the inevitable chauncey destruction and I just dont think it is AS big of a deal. Billups will now have to guard sammy as well which will make him have to pay a bit more attention, where he could lay of rondo a bit.
charles barkley just hates the celtics

But we filled them with one guy who hasn't played a min this season and another guy who is older than rocks.
Juan Dixon is a proven bench scorer who gives then an option to playing their rookie in the playoffs, and Ratliff relieves them of playing a guy 6'5" at the center spot. The problem Boston has is that was really DET only weakness.
Outside of Billups we actually match up well with DET but they are a very put together operation and they have done it before.
Yeah, but Cassell, even at age 38, is a better player than Juan Dixon.

Most overhyped storyline for the Celtics this season?
How, oh how, are the Celtics going to deal with the great Chauncey Billups?!
Honestly, the guy doesn't really worry me that much at all. IMO Chauncey won't do any more damage on Rondo/Sam/TA than Pierce will on Prince/Hayes... People site the first game where Chauncey dominated Rondo to help propel Detroit to victory. Um... did everyone forget that the Celtics completely botched a chance to take the last shot of regulation in a tie game? That's about as good a game as your going to get out of Chauncey in the 4th quarter and the C's should have at the least, pushed the game into OT.
Also, in the game the Celtics won against Detroit Pierce DOMINATED Prince and the Pistons D in an eerily similar way to that of Lebron in last years playoffs. Prince's D has been vastly overrated ever since that block on Reggie Miller. The reality is that Detroit has problems covering SF's that can slash to the hoop, just as much as the C's will have problems slowing Billups.
And Charles is simply a loudmouth. The Celtics have the best roster in the NBA with Cassell. Now they simply have to go out and cement the chemistry and win.

The key to this deal for me is that if Rondo gets hurt, or fouls out, we have another true PG. Yes, Cassell is a shoot-first point, but he's still a point. House is an undersized SG who's done a decent job running the team, but if his shot's not falling, he isn't really helping the team. If Rondo were to go down, Cassell could step in as the starter. Without him, you're looking at a House/Tony platoon at the point, which is obviously not going to get it done in the playoffs. (Query whether Sam could do it as a starter, but at least there's a shot.)
So for me, this is more about insurance than it is about supplanting Rondo or guarding Billups or whatever.

I think i most agree with the guy who was talking about betting and Charles. Barks thinks DET>BOS and do you think Cassell and PJ are going to change his mind?
We can'd defend Billups but Billups can't defend fast guys, so if we ended up with a fast penetrator aka a Devin Harris, Tony Parker mold well then that is a significant advantage we didn't have.
But for now we have a more stable lineup with Cassell and a guy who bricks open layups and shots like it's his job in Rondo. So it's not an earth shattering change for a national media guy to goo over, but it's a significant change none to less. He's paid to say what he wants, this isn't politics.
