Of course, we all know Sam *has* been talking with the Celtics, but I'm not sure if he's technically allowed to. I thought that was fairly textbook tampering until he was released from his contract, which doesn't happen until tonight.

Well, teams that want to claim a waived player wouldn't do so unless they talked to the player first. So I guess the waiver period of 48 hours is only applicable to the signings themselves.

Cassell cleared waivers and will be in Boston to sign tomorrow afternoon. Per Marc Spears on the Boston.com Celtics blog.

Looks like I knew what I was talking about, after all:

Sam Cassell has cleared waivers, and while he is still a virtual certainty to become a Celtic, the club isn

While it's exciting for us fans to see Cassell play against Detroit, in the big picture I think it's better that he doesn't. First, it's unfair to him because he'd really have to rush things to be ready. Second, I like the idea of them not having played against Cassell in a Boston uni before the playoffs, it's like our ace in the hole. In fact, I'd even say don't play PJ. After all, it isn't like we haven't won 46 games without those guys.

these were my exact thoughts particleman. Lets see what the team as currentyl constituted can do against Detroit and in the play offs we can throw PJ and Sam I am against them. As long as we have the better record we don't need the split to determine playoff seating against them, so this game is not critical in nature. I want one last look at the currebt C's against Detroit before we add PJ and Sam I am . i also think this is the plan from management.

Leon and Baby can continue their Center-esque offensive play and be a PF on defense.. it's a great matchup in theory at least. But push come to shove, Baby's got the body to play with Maxiell and Leon doesn't. We'll see though.

And I wouldnt' be worried about Perk's minutes. Doc takes him out of games like he's an old man himself anyways.

Perk has been the only Center on the team for almost every game and only averages 24 mpg. There's another 24 mpg at the Center spot.

..."Leon doesn't have the body to play Maxiell" WTF are you talking about?

Two players couldn't be more closely aligned from a physical standpoint...they have almost the exact same dimensions and demeanor on the court...Maxiell yells a bit more, but in terms of strength and physical play? These guys are cut from the same cloth...
