If Sam still has enough athletic ability to get it done during the playoffs we are talking title.
So what are we looking at here? Six good season's after this one and then the devil gets Danny's soul?
Looking for some negatives in this Cassell business

Cassell will be fine playing about 10 minutes a game. If he plays very well and is able to take away some extra minutes from Rondo and House, that's fine too. However, I'm worried about his ability to play D. Cassell never played D in his life and now he's what 38(?), it'll be even worse.
But we got him cheap, if he doesn't work out, we can easily dump him.

The only negative I see is that he could potentially take some of Rondo's playing time without actually being as good as Rondo. Other than that, I can't think of anything.

Is this more of a move for the team or to appease a certain player and/or head coach? I doubt Ainge would bring in Cassell if he weren't behind the idea of him being of some help in the playoffs providing experience and leadership. Still, the insinuation here is that Cassell is more of a scorer than passer. Interestingly, I'd read that Rivers could play Rondo and Cassell on the floor together only Rondo would be the off guard. If they're playing together at times during a game. I would have the reverse thinking in mind: Cassell at shooting guard on offense. Rondo's shooting isn't nearly as consistent as he should be for him to be a capable offensive threat. His mentality is to pass foremost.
Cassell's imminent signing conflicts with Danny Ainge's feel for the game; he was not Sam I Am's biggest fan when he tried to coach him in Phoenix. In order to force him to pass, Ainge would call a post-up for Cassell and beg the opposition to double. In other words, this pickup is all about appeasing Kevin Garnett, who enjoyed his lone longest playoff run in '01 (Western finals; all the rest were one round and done) alongside Cassell (working the pick-and-roll to perfection, no doubt) and Latrell Sprewell. Rondo yesterday talked about being on the court with veteran point guard. A good part of that time, Cassell will undoubtedly be off the ball, perhaps looking to post up. But sometimes Rondo, who has improved his shooting, will be able to run the wing as Cassell handles the point guard duties.
