Question for Basketball Historians

How many teams have doubled their win total from the previous season? The Celtics did it with Bird. I believe San Antonio did with Duncan and the return of David Robinson.

How many others?

If we go undefeated here on out, we'd be 70-12, two games shy of tripling our win total of last year.

I think the bigger story is if we go 70-12 we tie the Bulls record. But the Bulls record will probably never be tied or beaten

What are you talking about? The Bulls went 72-10.

Well the Sixers nearly tripled their win total from '72-'73 to '73-'74, although going from 9 wins to 25 wins isn't exactly something to plan a parade for. :wink:

The Celtics also more than doubled their win total in the first year under Rick Pitino, and I'm sure it had more to do with his incredible coaching and GM manuevers than the fact that the Celtics had their worst season in history the year before.

The Bulls went 23-59 in 2003-04 and 47-35 in 2004-2005.

Greatest NBA turnaround = 97' Spurs 36 games (20 wins to 56 wins)
Celtic's currently are plus 26 and look like a good bet to go 60+ wins, which would break the Spurs record
This seems to be more relevant than doubling or tripling a win total.
