Yeah, stop being ridiculous. Kendrick Perkins isn't better than Bynum. Pierce isn't as good as Kobe. Gasol isn't as good as KG.

Breaking down individual matchups to determine who has the better team is **** (Please Use More Appropriate Word), by the way. The Raptors are better than the Cavs at four positions. Which team is better, though?

Individual matchups are certainly important when your trying to analyze how two good teams will match up. Basketball is a team game but individual matchups are of major importance because if Team A has a weak spot (player) which Team B can exploit than that is certainly significant.

No one said Kendrick Perkins is better than Bynum but Bynum hasn't proven that he can be effective against Perkins... and Perkins production (numbers) aren't eye-popping because he isn't asked to score a lot of points.

Lamar Odom is a tweener. He can't guard the C's staring SF or PF, which happen to be the Celtics' strongest positions. When you can't effectively defend your matchup at even an average rate your contributions will likely end up being negative in sum. Plus if the Lakers go with Odom, Gasol, and Bynum up front the Celtics will be able to clog the lane in a major way. Which will effectively make the Lakers a jumpshooting team... which is the Celtics major objective defensively.

Kobe might be better than Paul but MVP, 1st Team All NBA, etc. have no bearing on the discussion. They are simply awards and are highly influenced by media hype and the like. Kobe is a great talent but his character is lacking. When his team struggles he'll shoot his team into a game or out of it. With the way the Celtics play defense and the fact that he's going to have to guard Ray and Paul on the other end, tells me that your going to see a lot more of frustrated chucker Kobe than you'd really like LA fans. Your team might be good enough to handle some of the other teams around the NBA but the Celtics can and would own you in a heads up match.

Hey, I think the Celtics would wreck the Lakers in a series (as they would any team), but I think these

Kobe>>>>>>>Pierce
Gasol<<<<<<<<<<<<<KG
Bynum>>>>>>Perkins
Odom=Allen

arguments don't prove anything except that you know about inequalities from third grade. As if the team with the most greater than signs is the better team or something.

No one can guard Kobe, Odom can't guard either Pierce or KG, the Lakers would be forced into being a jumpshooting team blah blah blah. You're right these are the things that matter in a matchup. Not some silly inequality matchup game.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine these inequality matchups people get hung up on. :)

Yeah and we also need to remember that both teams have a bench... it's not just 4 players per team, the matching kobe with pierce, bynum with perk etc is illegitimate, there are other factors involved (fouls, injuries). We do have a superior defense though, and that's the main reason I'd pick the Celtics to beat the Lakers.

I dont know what that has to do with which team is better

How often has the team struggled when either Bynum or Gasol is in the lineup? Kobe doesnt have to "shoot us into a game" with either of those guys... when we have both together....

fair enough... but we havent even seen the Lakers defense with a Odom-Gasol-Bynum front line.... With those 3 guys, Lakers should be able to rebound, clog the lane and protect the basket as well as any team in the NBA.

Can someone translate this into English for me? Oh you mean the Celtics turn the ball over too much? You only said that because the Celtics had 20 turnovers for this one game, so you use this 1 games stats as an argument, typical trolling technique. How about next time the Lakers score under 80 points, we go over to your board and say you guys can't shoot at all and do not know how to play offense, would be a bit annoying wouldn't you say? Or next time you give up 120 points, we go there and say "no defense baby, Lakers suck!". Give it a break.

Oh yeah, I would also like to make the point if this discussion were to take place at the laker board, phil2.5 would have suspended all of you by now.
