Ryan Gomes doesn't fill a need so he shouldn't be resigned. He doesn't play defense at the 3 or the 4 and he is too much of a tweener. Powe is an undersized four but atleast he plays like a 4 and he can defend, rebound, and score in the post much better the Gomes. Posey is a lockdown defender at the 3 as well and he can shoot the 3 so I don't see Gomes playing over him if he was signed either.

With regards to the MLE, I really hope we don't use it unless we can find a difference maker. You don't use the MLE on role players like Jason Kapono, Matt Carroll, and Luke Walton like what a few teams did last season. You also don't sign these guys to 6 yr deals LOL. When the MLE is used it should never be for more then 2 or 3 seasons if you are signing role players to it. We have 3 all star level players who are already paid maximum salaries. Perkins has a decent contract at about 4 mil a yr and Rondo will get 6 to 8 mil a season in my opinion. Every other player on the roster should get 3 mil or less and it should all be for short term money so we can keep our financial flexibility.

We have a 60 win team.....if I could run next season with the same guys again I would. I see no need, I know how folks want to always fine tune things, this time has only played 70 some games together and they have gelled something crazy. Most times this process takes years. I would try to keep this squad together as long as I could, the older guys you could mess with like Brown and Cassell and Pollard. Even those guys if cheap and healthy I would keep. 8)

The things we need to look at next offseason are:

1. Another big body. Somebody who is tall. I'm talking about a Pollard/PJ Brown type player, maybe a little bit younger and not as injured. We need an insurance if Perk breaks down, although I feel as if Powe could start at the center spot. It would be nice to have somebody defensively who can block a few shots.

2. Adress the backup PG situation. Is it House? Is it Cassell? Is it somebody else?

3. Keep Posey. Really, he is an unique player in the league. But if he goes, we need a real stopper at the wing positions.

Gomes does not fill any of those needs. We already have two undersized forwards. We don't have minutes for the third one. And Gomes is to slow to play the wing.

I don't want any more players from bad teams. Look at Posey. He is a winner. Miami fell apart without him. We need to sign more small time winners like Posey and House. We should try to steal players form good teams.

I dont think the Gomes will want to play for the Celtics. Players dont want to go to a team where they are guaranteed not to play (unless an injury occurs). We dont have enough minutes available for him at this point.

I love Gomes but I don' t know where you find minutes for him. He's a ok defender and has learned to hit the outside shot but he's really not a shooter. Instead he's a 4 in a 3 body. Pierce and Posey are both in front of him at the3 and Powe has locked up the backup 4 spot so where does Gomes playI know WYc and Danny love him as well so if he came back I'd be fine with it but I think we have other needs.

Having heard what you guys are all saying, I guess I do agree that it'll be hard to find PT for Gomes. However, he's playing very well in Minnesota and I think Gomes, more than Big Al, can play off of the big 3. But you guys are right. Maybe we have other greater needs.

Gomes would be a great fit for this team.

1. He never needs touches.
2. He creates offensive possesions and gets a lot of garbage points which is huge for a team with 3 go to guys.
3. He has a great attitude.
4. His ability to hit the open jump shot at the 4 position is superior to Posey but his defense is a liability.

However, he is defensively limited. He is still a tweener and most effective at PF spot where he wouldn't relieve Garnett of the burden of bigger physical players. Powe is a better fit there because of his toughness.

I would love to have him back but I wouldn't overpay to get him and there may be better options already.

To win championships with our 3 stars we need defensive minded, physically tough players like Rondo, Posey and Perkins and mentally tough veterans like Eddy House who understand their role and do not shy away from it.

Gomes and West were 2 players I would have like to keep initially but they were more than replaced with Eddie House and James Posey. I would rather keep those 2 guys than bring back a couple of nice guys who often shied away from what they were asked to do.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

If Gomes had been drafted by some else, this wouldn't even be a topic. With the current roster, he isn't needed and wouldn't add anything that they need. Nice guy, nice player, nice knowing you.
Besides, why would he come back. He will get more minutes elsewhere and that translates to better paychecks.

Not for nothing but last I checked Ryan is MINN second best player more effective than Al actually. Why are they going to let him go? Why would he give up starting gig to be Pierce or KG's back up? I think Ryan will land himself a nice contract in MINN.

If Danny Ainge is going to target young free agents i'd rather see him make a run at guys like CJ Miles and Dorrell Wright or even simply Delonte West who can provide solid relief for both Rondo and R.Allen.

I do think CJ Miles is really worth a look as perhaps somebody we can steal to groom to replace Ray Allen. I might strongly consider giving him a 4/12 offer.
