^^He probably will get it. While Doc has not shot at COY and KG has no shot at MVP, Danny will probably (rightfully) win this. Good for him!

Let's carry this into the playoffs and bring the NBA championship back where it belongs, to Beantown!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

What if... Mitch Kupchak wins it and not Ainge and/or Bryant over Garnett for league MVP? That would be a double slap in the face of the season that the Celtics are having. A definite insult, to me I feel. In my opinion, a Celtics player should win the MVP award and Ainge the executive of the year award. While, I think the Celtics will miss out on rookie of the year (Davis), sixth man of the year (Posey), most improved player of the year (Perkins) and head coach of the year (Rivers). Decent candidates but not strong ones beside the head coach of the year. For some reason I don't see Rivers winning it in favor of other head coaches who'd clinched a playoffs seed. You'll read names like Stan Van Gundy (from an eighth seed last season to a third seed this season) or Byron Scott (from a non playoffs team last season to a high seed this season) instead.

Subject for a new thread: Who's more improved, Rondo or Perk? I would say Rondo in a landslide. I've never seen a player improve his jumpshot in one year like he has.

I think Garnett is the true MVP since his defense this year is like Pedro's pitching from 99-00, but it looks like he won't win it. If Ainge doesn't win exec of the year then that award should be erased from existence. I really hope Doc doesn't win Coach of the Year, because one undeserved COY is enough on his resume.

So what Bird did all by himself back then, to do it now took garnett, R Allen, Pollard, Posey, House and of course the Big Baby. Shows how good Bird was.

Heh. Just like KG is getting all the credit now - Bird got all the credit then. Not that he didn't deserve alot of it but there was also a coaching change and the C's dumped some bad apples.

I wasn't around then (as a basketball fan) but Cowens was a player coach - so it seems. That didn't seem to work that well..

MVP is more ambiguous than Executive of the Year -- so the only thing that would upset me this year is if Kupchak wins Exec over Ainge.

KG is the biggest part of the Celtic turnaround, clearly, but everyone notes Boston's success is at the defensive end and -- while KG sets the tone -- committment from Pierce and Posey in particular, but pretty much the entire roster, and coaching from TT all contributed to an NBA best defensive team.

I wish the league had something along the lines of a "Player of the Year" award -- and in that, I think KG would have a chance.

But, if a player of the year award is to replace the MVP award. Then the player of the year award would be an award awarded at the end of the playoffs. However, say Garnett is the front runner and Boston is eliminated in the conference finals. Those who vote will simply wait for whichever candidate remains when the NBA championship trophy is raised and then he's their choice. That doesn't sound right... Thus, it has to be awarded prior to the playoffs so to prevent fickleness in the voting.
