And I don't see Avery Johnson getting fired, or resigning
Lets give Doc a chance here first. Danny trusts him, and Danny knows what he's doing. Besides Doc does have his strengths just as he certainly has his weaknesses.
Already happened today. Cuban ousted him, and word here in Phoenix is that D'Antoni will be back for another run at it.

If any of that helps. And.......Go Celtics please shut thos ATL punks up. My suns got bounced so I gotta pull for KG and the crew to get a ring.

Doc aside, I will defend Avery Johnson. Last season I thought he did an ezcellent job of providing leadership and awarding minutes according to who deserved them the most. In the regular season at least. First round oust, but it was against the team's ex-coach and Avery's mentor. The same problems existed against the Warriors at the beginning of the season as well.
This season, the Mavs' were marred by injuries early, and Avery was out testing vartious lineups to judge potential contributors to come up with the best game plan end of season and playoffs. Eventually, everyone got healthy, Mavs regained their chemistry and were playing really well, and then the Jason Kidd trade was pulled off...plus throughout the season he was given guys like Hassell Juwan How and Tyronn Lue that sucked but were presumably supposed to get PT
Sounds like Avery had been fighting with Mark Cuban post Kidd trade per the Wiretap. some Mavs fans have criticized him saying the team didn't trust him. I think it was more he was unhappy with the organization and the players, also maybe unhappy, sensed that. Avery takes some deserved fault there IMO - yet when emotions are involved motivation is affected and certain things are more easily said than done.
He might be a control freak, but he knows what he's doing. He is no nonsense and players know that he makes decisions based on what he feels will do the most to help his team win. His personality is more intense than Doc and portrays more self confidence than Doc not in bball IQ persay but in making in game adjustments and such. He gets his team's respect, and I haven't seen anything indicating he has an inflated ego.
I didn't see him getting fired even if I could've saw him resigning. I think that was another poor move on Mark Cuban's end.
I think our players like Doc, I think Danny does as well, and I don't think we lose to ATL and I think desperation will force the right decisions against other opponents....though our entire team including Doc needs to step their game up if we have a chance at winning the title.
Now if we lose to ATL, or CLE, or Avery Johnson wants to take a year off from the stresses of being a head coach and is willing to accept an assistant role....well then things happen.
