As a non Celtics fan I've always thought the weakest link on this team was the head coach. Like if there was anything to stop you from winning the title its Doc Rivers. Unfortunalely firing your head coach before game 7 of a playoff series is suicide.

sure, he has his flaws, but he's at least been able to get his teams out of the first round and, iirc, he actually has a bit of history with your franchise.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

What about Jeff Van Gundy. The man teaches defense and won't let this teams defense disappear in the playoffs. He's also been playoff tested and gotten his teams further than one round.

If not him, maybe try and get Dantoni, who would be lower on my list, but would get this team scoring more points and playing better offense. For Doc being an offensive coach, this team goes on stretches where they just don't score. He also draws up the WORST plays for the end of games.

After that, I'm not really sure who they could try and get, but right now I'd take Mike Woodson.

At some point the players need to take responsibility for what happens on the court.

Agree 100%. Doc will probably be fired at the end of the season, especially if they lose Sunday. But unless the Celtics at minimum put up a competitive fight in the ECF, never mind just getting there, Ainge will probably make Rivers the scape goat.

But at the end of the day, this is still a team where the only player that showed any signs of bringing it when it counted last night was Kendrick Perkins. He was the one player that manned up, got that huge offensive rebound at the end, and, despite being a 60% free throw shooter, nailed both free throws when they were desperately needed. Otherwise, from Garnett to Pierce to Allen to Rondo, none of the big name players stepped up when it mattered.

I think it is time to wake up to the fact that, even if Doc Rivers is secretly still on the Atlanta Hawks payroll, there is no way a veteran 66 win team should be in a game 7 with a 38 win team.

Benching Rondo for House in the 4th qtr of game 4 was another horrendous decision by Doc. It looks like he learned his lesson because he hasn't played House sice then.

Doc's got to go if we lose tomorrow.

47 free throws! WTF!

I'd like to think we committed all those fouls because we can't keep up with the Hawks quickness, but I know this isn't true. The refs determined the outcome of the game, which should never happen in the play-offs. If this happens in game 7, then the fix is on. Either that, or the refs have been calling games differently during the regular season. Why is there such a huge discrepiency? It seemed like every time the Hawks took it to the basket, the refs would call a foul.

If the Hawks had Bibby for an entire season, I'm sure they'd win more than 38 games. I don't remember when the Hawks traded for him, but I don't think he played more than 20 regular season games for the Hawks. Still, the Celts should have beaten this team in 4-5 games.

All playoff long I've been screaming at my TV. "Timeout, take a timeout." The guy isn't a winner. The Playoffs is where good coaches shine. Doc is not one of them.

From Mike Kahn . . .

7. Mike Woodson is outcoaching Doc Rivers during the games. Woodson is clearly making adjustments and creating mismatches, and Rivers has been slow to react. When he allowed the defensive-challenged and 33-year-old Allen to suffer through guarding Johnson's 35-point outburst (20 in the fourth quarter) in Game 4, it left many an observer incredulous with a bigger, young and much more defensively inclined James Posey available. He went to Posey in Game 5 and threw more traps at Johnson, and his 21 points were much more difficult to come by in a 25-point loss in Boston. Again, why did it take all of Game 4 to figure it out? They could have secured a commanding 3-1 lead with some faster recognition.

Atlanta fans know what a truly damning statement that is (cause Woodson sucks). I feel your pain and support replacement of Doc Rivers after the season. However, I must insist that you play the hand you were dealt for Game 7 and that's mean Doc Rivers on the bench.

Says the magic fan. While the Celtics have definitely havent played well in this series. The reality is only one team can win a championship. Boston might not win it but I would bet a lot of money that the magic wont either.

I think what he's saying is that he's glad Rivers is no longer coaching his team...

I have something to confess:

I have decided I cannot watch game 7 for the sake of my own well being and for that of my personal belongings. It will be the first game I have intentionally missed all season.

In the probable event of Doc Rivers screwing up, I do not want to spend the entire offseason pissed off at him. I don't want to know what went wrong, and I don't want to know how stupid he was. I don't want to fill my mind with "if-onlys" and "should've beens." I'd rather just tell myself that the Hawks must have played a perfect game to knock us off.

I remember at the beginning of the season at first thinking, how Doc Rivers is the one guy who could screw us once we got to the playoffs, and then trying to convince myself that anyone could coach this team to a championship. "Remember KC Jones", right?

In the event that we do win, I will resume watching the Celtics in Game 1 vs. the Cavs. In the event of a loss, I will watch the sports headlines for news of his firing...

So tomorrow, I will be rooting for the Celtics to win, but I won't be watching.
