Big Time Players and Shrinking Violets

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Tue May 13, 2008 1:03 pm

Anyone who blames the coaching in this game just has a personal agenda against Doc Rivers. This game was all about big time players stepping up and others shrinking. The Game was 76-73 Cavs with 6 minutes left in the game. Here is how the "Stars" played the rest of the way.

Pierce 2-5, 4 Points
Garnett 0-2, 0 Points
R. Allen 0-1, 0 Points

Total 2-8, 4 Points

LeBron 4-6, 10 Points (2 3Pt Shots)

Big time players step up. Bottomline, Pierce, KG & Ray Allen simply are not stepping up their game when it matters. Blame the coach all you want but the fact is the "Big 3" are playing like frightened schoolgirls. No poise at the end of games at all.

Come on you know what Doc should have done. Since his stars were not doing it, he should have gone to this

Tony Allen
Big Baby
House

That gets it done.

I agree with you and Im the biggest Doc hater here, did u agree with the 4th quarter lineup though? Anyway the "Big 3" dont deserve that name after they played like frightened schoolgirls last night

I felt that the game was already out of hand by the time Allen got back in the game. After Allen had a very good 3rd quarter will 11 points, how did it make sense to sit him for the first 6 minutes of the 4th? Why did Big Baby see his first action of the night in the 4th quarter when the Celts were down 3? Also, he played terrible in relief of KG. Pierce has been awful against LeBron for two years now so we can't expect much from him. However, Doc needs to put his guys in a better position to win rather than bring Allen back after the Cavs had weathered the storm and were playing with so much energy that Boston had no chance. Celts had the Cavs in the penalty with 8:30 left in the 3rd and Doc takes Pierce out of the game? Isn't he the guy who draws the most fouls on the team? Would've been a great time for Pierce to have one of the 12-free throw games, but he got taken out when he had the best opportunity to get to the line.

Also, LeBron was in foul trouble and guarding Pierce at the start of the 3rd. If ever there was a time to let Pierce go one on one, that might have been it.

KG and Ray Allen need to shoot more than 3 times combined in the last 6 minutes

Wow, we agree on something! KG gets a pass from me cos he carried them the first 3 quarters, but Pierce in particular has been SO BAD...it's inexcusable.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Not a bad game for a road game, all their shots were falling guys, Varejao hitted 2 from 6 meters, Smith 5 or 6, Boobie with 2 3s in the crucial moments with 3 players all over him...

^^Like I said elsewhere, I absolutely don't mind getting beaten by other teams' stars, but when their trash beats us (Varejao, Gibson, Smith, Wally) then it pisses me off to no end.

Did you think the that sort of shot will fall down again even if they repeat it 1000 times?

Over the course of 100 games they MAYBE have performances like that 10 times. Which is what's so frustrating

Joe Smith isn't ****, and Gibson had one great game in the playoffs last year that led to his cannonization as a superstar when he's nothing more than a nice bench player.

So, yep.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
