Could we possibly sign Newble/Ross and let Tony go?

Tony looks like he has no future in Boston, and we might even let him leave. Ira Newble is just like Tony, just with more experience and a much higher basketball IQ. He's a very good defender and can also shoot the ball occasionally. He also doesn't make boneheaded moves like Tony.

So would it be wise to sign Newble for, let's say, the bi-annual exception for two years and let Tony go if he gets a good offer? Or how about Quinton Ross? He has played some quality playoff minutes in the 2006 Playoffs, and is also defensive-minded.

Both would be a better choice than Tony at the backup SG.

I am not sure about Newble. I have always though of him more as a SF than a SG. With Pierce and Posey. I dont think we need him.

I wouldnt mind Ross. He would be a good signing. I wonder how much he will cost though.

But I can see us just resigning TA. He is a RFA which gives us leverage in any negotiations. Plus, He really hasnt had a chance to showcase himself and build value on the FA market. I think TA a year removed from his ACL surgery will rebound quite nicely next year. I wouldnt mind a 3 year deal for him totalling around 6-9 million dollar .

Newble played backup SG in Cleveland.

Cleveland fan here.

Ira did tend to play more SG than SF in Cleveland, obviously cuz Lebron was on the floor so much at the 3 spot. But I'd say he's a better fit at SF. He can even play PF if you're going with a really small lineup (which he did for the Cavs sometimes, although I guess you could call Lebron the 4 in those situations).

He's definitely a solid defender, as well as a good guy who will always give his best effort. Not a bad choice to fill your 11th-12th roster spot.

Ira isn't that good. Ross is a very good defensive player but lacks any offense.

Newble? Are you kidding me? He's not better than TA.

What's the gripe with TA? No one's seen him play in about a month. If Doc would actually play him, instead of sucking ET's genitals, we'd actually see his value and see that he's better than Newble.
