(Doc)tor Jekyll/Mr. Hyde

Post#1 » by UGA Hayes » Mon May 19, 2008 8:57 pm

Man Doc has really been alternating from good coaching performances to bad ones this series. He went from stubbornly refusing to sit Ray and Sam to making the not so no-brainer decision of not playing either them during the most crucial moments of game 7. Early in this series I was questioning whether doc would have the guts to put in the crunch time lineup he put in without katowing to certain player reputations. Thankfully doc became much more flexible as the series went on and was making moves seemingly more based on matchups and how well one was playing and not because it was the 4 minute mark.

Here's hoping he remains flexible during the Detroit series.

until the Game 7's there haven't been any must-win games. so it's worth trying to get guys like Allen and Cassell going because when they're on they help so much. you dance with who brung ya, as they say. but when it comes to must-wins, then you just have to play the guys who give you the best chance to win on that day. to me that's the explanation for the difference. Doc played to win in games 5,6,7. we won two, and probably should have won game 6. I have no problems with the philosophy.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but each playoff series Doc has coached in his career has gone 7 games.

Luckily Doc hasn't run into any coaching luminaries the first two rounds and he won't against Detroit either. Root for the Hornets because I am scared to death of Popovich and Jackson. Doc has about a C grade from me- good enough to keep going but nothing to write home about.

I tend to agree. Though I'm still disappointed we are still not seeing any Tony Allen. Otherwise I actually thought he coached well enough in game 7

Detroit's an easier matchup than Cleveland was anyway IMO, the real test comes in the finals

I guess it is worth considering the possibility that Doc purposely waits to make adjustments until they become absolutely necessary, that way the opponent has less time to adjust, persay.

I don't think I would agree with such a strategy, I'd rather strive to stay a step ahead of my opponent at all times, but who knows what might work best.

Personally I'd rather have a plan A-C ready starting game 1, A-G by game 2, as soon as the opponent shows signs of adjusting switch to the next plan. At least come the finals
