Earlier in his career, it would have worked like a charm. He averaged six assists a game in the 2001 playoffs with the Bucks, because they would put the ball in his hands, he'd come off a high screen, and either attack the basket and dish, or find the open man off a double-team. If the Bucks had better finishers around the basket, he might have averaged seven or eight assists.
Now, he just seems to lack that little bit of quickness, whether it be the ankle surgery or just being 32. He can't get to the spots on the floor he wants coming off a screen as consistently as he used to, so his passes are more often the bailout variety, as opposed to the make something happen variety. The exception is when he passes off the catch after coming off a screen, the way he did on the 180-degree turn and kick out to Posey for three in Game 6 against Detroit (he often finds Garnett flaring out to the corner after screens that way as well).
Cassell would be fine if he would stop trying to be a volume shooter in 10 minutes of PT. There was a play in the second quarter when he got the ball at the top of the key off an offensive rebound, Ray (who was hot at the time) flared out to the wing looking for the ball, Sam waved him off to try to get into a set, and the set consisted of him dribbling for 10 seconds and forcing up a fadeaway. Nobody else ever touched the ball. That's the crap that has to stop.
