How much this finals means to me as a 17 year old...
I've NEVER experienced a Celtics title... I can't even say I've seen Larry Bird play (aside from watching footage). I've never witnessed the "Celtics Dynasty". I grew up talking to my friends about Greg Minor, Dana Barros, Antoine Walker, Rick Fox, David Wesley... Guys like that. I've ALWAYS bleed green, and I've put up with losing season after losing season. I remember forcing the remote control out of my dads hands, getting into verbal fights with my parents because I refused to go to bed during the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals. That was the closest I've came to this. When we finally beat Detroit the other night, I can't even explain how ecstatic I was. To finally be a part of the group who will witness a Celtics/Lakers finals... it gets me so pumped. I don't know what the point of this was, nor do I know how you all will react... I just figured I'd say that... UBUNTU!

I was 10 years old the last time the Celts made it into the Finals. I was a relatively new Celts fan back then, as I started to get into basketball in around '85. I started to root for the Cs because that's who my dad and godfather cheered for. Wanna know something? During that time in the late 80s, early 90s, I always assumed that the Cs would always be contending. I learned about the history of the Celts, the dynasties, 8 straight titles, championships in every decade, etc. There was no reason for me to believe that the Cs would ever struggle. But wow, 21 years? Poor draft picks, players passing away, poor coaching, etc - a lot of bad things have happened since 1987, but here we are again - 1 more chance to get another championship. It's like a dream come true.
You know how players say "You never know when you'll get this chance again"? Well, as fans, we gotta say the same thing. We never know when the Celts will reach the Finals again after this season. If I have to wait another 21 years, I'm going to be 52 years old!!!
So yeah, enjoy these Finals!!! I'm going to be rooting very hard, because for all we know, it might take 21 years, maybe even longer, for the Cs to get to this point again.

21 here, for most of us this is the prime of our fan lifes too, and to have a title run go along with the time available to be a dedicated fan is amazing. I really think this is going to be a tight Finals but apparently all the experts believe it won't be close... I know they have the Kobe advantage and I could see a LA in 6 predecition as teh logical choice but man no one thinks we can win.
It's like we're the 04 Pistons or something.
To be fair I never watched any of the West playoffs this year sides from a little of NO v SA. So maybe the Lakers are this good and I just don't know it.

31, I didn't grow in a basketball family, when I started watching around 89 I had pretty much missed the ride. I was fortunate to see Larry, McHale and Parrish play though, even at that tail end of their careers they were great, Parrish was my favorite. I haven't missed more than a handful of games since 2000 when I kind of settled down a little, and this year has been a joy obviously.

Agreed. I've only been to one Celtics game since I was 10, and it was against the Suns when both teams were not that good. If I didn't have finals next week I'd be going to LA for a finals game, but unfortunately I have a test on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

I'm in the same boat as many of you. I'm 26 but didn't grow up in a basketball family so I don't remember the last Celtics dynasty. I probably started watching every Celtics game in the 94-95 season because I had a few buddies at school who were die hard. This has been a long time coming for me and I couldn't be happier. I'm just really glad I have tickets to Games 1,2 and 7 and will get to see my team play at the highest level, in person.

i am 21 as well. born into a celtics family. my great uncle & uncle are huge celtics fans. my great uncle has been along for every celtic ride. my mom is a huge celtic fan as well, larry bird was her man. my dad really doesnt have a favorite team. he loves basketball as much as the next guy, but he's a hometown guy, so he likes the mavs, as well as the Celtics since the rest of his family are Celtics.
so when KG came here, it was great for everyone lol. but i always pulled for boston out of the east jus b/c i knew the history of the franchise & thought it was ashame for a great franchise to be so poor, & PP has been my 2nd fav player for a number of years now.
but i've already had my favorite NFL team of all time (the bucs) win a super bowl in '02 (i been a fan of them since i can remember), & it would be awesome for my fav NBA team to win a title. i hope i get to see KG & PP lifting up that trophy with tears in their eyes!!!!
