It is believed that Allen was forced to leave the Staples Center early due to a health concern involving one of his children.

The Celtics didn't give specifics but released a statement in which Coach Doc Rivers asked that, "You please respect Ray's privacy at this time, and we'll keep you up to date as best we can moving forward."

Anyone have any more information? Was he on the team plane? Whats the severity? How will this affect his play?

God forbid if there is something severe with one of Ray's children he needs to be at home.

In light of this potential catastrophe for Ray's young daughter, I'm sure basketball means nothing to him right about now. I just pray she's alright for her sake, not just so her dad can play a kid's game.

Oh wow. This is the first I'm hearing about this. My best wishes to Ray and his family.

Obviously if there's a major concern here then family comes first; I hope Ray can play and be productive, but if he can't I'm still confident in the Celts. Garnett should come out like a bandit in game six after his missed FTs and tip, so I'm not overly worried. Hopefully everything is alright with Ray and his family!

His daughter was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. Nothing too serious, from what I read, but I can understand him wanting to get home. I think he'll rip it up tomorrow night and have another good game.

Well I'm no doctor but from what I read it definitely *was* diabetes...she was in the hospital for something (probably low blood sugar) and they figured out she's diabetic. Nothing serious, so I expect Ray to play, play well, and help the C's finish the dying Fakers and take home the title!!!

Wondering where it was said that his daughter was diagnosed with diabetes? As someone very familiar with the diease, if this is the case she will be ok, I assume its type 1 in her case and Jay Cutler (Quarterback for the Denver Broncos) was just diagnosed with the same thing. Its unfortunate for her, but she will be perfectly fine and will live a normal life. Its important to get it diagnosed sooner rather than later. Again my best wishes to the whole family.

Even a terribly upset mother can actively support her terribly upset husband in concentrating on his job when he's only 3 days away from 3 months of vacation time. And with that support, he should in basketball terms be fine.

Since it's chronic rather than acute -- i.e., since there's no RATIONAL emergency reason for him to pay so much attention that his work suffers -- the family most likely will hold it together EMOTIONALLY for 3 days.

Obviously, if it were further from the end of the season, the right thing would be for him to defocus a bit on his work and attend to his family. Ditto, no matter when it occurred, if it were a more acute matter (e.g., Derek Fisher's daughter's surgery).

I hope nothing but the best for Ray's daughter. That said, I hope Ray plays and plays his heart out for his daughter. The C's should dedicate tomorrow's game for Ray's daughter and Doc's father who recently passed away.

BOSTON -- The Celtics expect Ray Allen to play when they try for a second time to win the NBA championship.

Kendrick Perkins? Now that's a different story.

Allen rushed from Staples Center after the Los Angeles Lakers' 103-98 win Sunday night that forced a sixth game Tuesday night in Boston. The reason: his son was hospitalized in the Los Angeles area after feeling ill.

Perkins watched Game 5 from the bench with a shoulder injury. His availability for Game 6 will be a game-time decision.

Allen's toddler son, Walker, underwent medical tests Sunday and Monday, and Allen was still at the hospital when the rest of the Celtics arrived in Boston at about 10:30 p.m. ET Monday, team spokesman Jeff Twiss told The Associated Press.

Allen relayed that information to Twiss by phone once the plane landed because the player had heard reports that his daughter, Tierra, was the child who had what the Celtics described as "a health issue," Twiss said. Allen planned to take an overnight flight so he could play Tuesday night, according to Twiss.

Allen also has a son older than Walker.
